Looking at the new AZ Curtiss Hawk 75 in Finnish markings it got me thinking about all the different fighter aircraft they flew. In just a quick survey I found they flew fighters from all the main combatant nations except Japan! Just a quick sample of types in at least squadron strength From Great Britain: Hurricane, Gladiator, Gamecock, Gauntlet From France: MS406, MS410 From Germany: Bf 109G From Italy: Fiat G-50 From USA; Brewster Buffalo, Curtiss Hawk 75 From USSR: Polikarpov I-153 From Holland: Fokker DXXI What great choices for a collection of fighters from many nations and flown by one! |

And the Myrsky II for a *Finnish* fighter. Almost surprised they didn't get some Oscars. |

Another interesting one is the wacky little French Caudron C.714. I don't think the Finns used them in combat, but had a half-dozen on the rolls. |

It is nothing short of amazing what the Finnish Air Force ( and overall military ) accomplished in their conflict with the Russians in WWII. To be that effective with the various types and outdated models along with the nightmare of logistics involved only proves what a determined nation can do. |

You can say that again. If any of you haven't, watch the movie "Winter War". It's as if they emptied out the Finnish National Military History Museum to film that movie, I consider it one of the most authentic war movies I've ever viewed, on multiple levels. Also, it's very hard to tell the Soviet I-16's and SB bombers are actually R/C models. It's that good IMHO. Warren |
