Sad to hear that artist and IPMS founder Dick Ward passed away on Sunday 12/11/2017. Dick was best known for his Modeldecal range which set new standards. Over the years he did decal and research work for FROG, Revell and Airfix, with whom he was the person with the longest connection with the company. I was lucky to be tutored by Dick and did my first work for Airfix under him 20 years ago in 1997. He was analogue and I was digital, and the torch was passed over the next few years. Dick was a slight man possessed of a sly humour and an infectious laugh. He was also a legend. RIP Dick. Edited by Jonathan, Nov 13 2017, 01:00 PM.

Absolutely agree. I went out of my way to acquire Modeldecal sheets in my "formative modelling years", if only because the research and presentation was so good. Still have many of them today, and have used a lot as well. Vaya con dios bruddah.... |

Like kingofmen, I was a fan of the Modeldecal range, particularly his RAF generic sheets. After acquiring multiples of each of those sheets, back in the day ... I'm still using them years later. He will be missed - RIP. ![]() Scott |

His Modeldecal sheets are still the gold-standard for how to do an aftermarket sheet. The layouts, the info, the little detail touches... just genius. I buy them just to marvel at them. |

My condolences to Mr Ward's family and friends. He was certainly a skilled artist at what he chose to do, and set a very high standard at that work. Like many others here, I too have a stockpile of Modeldecal sheets, both type-specific and generic (codes, serials). Thinking back to the days when Modeldecals were new on the market, the only significant competitors were ESCI and Microscale, neither of them having instruction sheets whose quality came anywhere near those created by Mr Ward.
