While checking out postings on another site, it occurred to me that there was absolutely NO "chatter" whatsoever of any Black Friday "deals" going on anywhere, as I recall seeing in years past. Ideas as to the silence?

I've seen a flurry of deals to be honest. Most of them were posted by hobby shops, dealers, etc. on the Facing Book, but I also got several sale notices through e-mail. (Not from Squadron. ;) . )

MSM are generally saying that Black Friday has run its course due to online sales effectively creating a culture of continuous sales. Supposed to top $100B this year w Amazon and Walmart taking the lions shares.

For me personally, I get the kits I want when available. Serves double duty to keep the shops I like open and ensures I get the kit. It’s a bonus if I can get it on sale. My wishlist shows the new release kits I want as not yet on the market.

I'm a "green shirt" because I work on the carrier's flight deck and maintain US Navy aircraft. Safe sorties are my life so we can be anywhere, anytime -- from the Sea.

I don't know about larger trends, but this certainly fits my buying habits. Yes if it is November, I may hold off on a purchase until Black Friday / Cyber Monday to see if I can get a better deal, but really it is just a date that I know a lot of places will have a sale, unlike the other 11 months when the date of sales may be a little harder to guess at.

Black Friday sales aren't always even the best sales out there. Taking Sprue Brothers as just one example, they are offering 20% off, but a couple months ago they had an Eduard 30% off sale.

Between the occasional deal that pops up on Ebay and shopping around my regular 1/2 dozen regular vendors, I rarely have to pay full price Black Friday or Regular Wednesday (TM). :haha:

Same here, great sales on kits get run most of the year. I will admit to splurging on myself the last couple of Christmas holidays by buying a gob load of Eduard kits, etch, etc. to get free shipping. My Christmas present to myself so to speak. I did the same last night.
As it is, my kit buying the last two years had slowed to a standstill. Books and decals? That's another matter.

As for Black Friday deals, myself and four of my close "model" buddies went in together and placed an order with Squadron. We easily reached the 40% discount number and I snagged an Airfix Victor in the process. It`s also a great way to reduce shipping costs as we divide it evenly between all of us.
