Maybe I am imagining this, but I am sure I read somewhere (and I think it was here) several months ago of a forthcoming decal sheet containing markings for aircraft that appeared in the 1941 movie "Dive Bomber". Can anyone recall or know anything about this... or am I imagining it? I have done a search but came up with nothing. |

One of the boxings of Special Hobby's Vindicator included decals for a movie plane. The boxing was appropriately marked "Dive Bomber Star" |

Yellow Wings decals did a multi sheet for 1/48 scale: http://yellow-wingsdecals.com/decals/index.php/48-050-planes-of-the-movie-dive-bomber-34-95.html But they don't list a 1/72 scale version of it, sorry. |

Is there serious, real interest in such a sheet in 1/72? I have a nice collection of pictures of USN aircraft used in movies in the '30s and early '40s that would make a nice sheet. The problem is kit support. O8C Helldiver from King Kong, Dive Bomber SB2U and F3Fs , planes from the movie "The Helldivers" to name a few. Many decals would be limited run or vacuum or expensive resin kits. |

Would be cool, but not sure how much interest given the aircraft problems. |

I'm not particularly interested in the movie aspect, but as most used in filming at that time were legitimate in service aircraft and we aren't exactly swarming with yellow wings period decals I'd buy it. Unless there are decals I'm unaware of many of the Special Hobby kits are not particularly well covered beyond what is supplied with the kits, FF, F3F, SB2U, and B-18, same with the Attack Hobby F2F. With your excellent support for many of the older kits, these more recent kits have been kind of left behind. Special Hobby does a good job of providing 2-4 options for most, but the options are still pretty limited compared to the potential. For anyone daring enough to try, many of the vacform kits are so old their decals are probably not viable even if present. I just picked up a Rareplanes Curtiss Y1A-8 and am going to have to figure out something for decals because it has none. At least as an experimental aircraft that shouldn't be too hard, but an in service aircraft would be. Slight tangent but the King King reference made me think of it. Assuming references are even available Merian C. Cooper had quite the aviation career before and after filming King Kong. The real aircraft he flew in WW1, the Polish-Soviet War and WW2 along with the King King aircraft could probably fill one of your smaller sheets by itself, throw in something from Pan-Am and it might fill one of the larger sheets. I can't promise you would sell many, but you would sell at least one to me. |
