The court of LAST RESORT!

Was headed to the Dayton show on Saturday. Then the weather and fate intervened. While I know how to drive when it starts to snow and the temperatures drop, the young man behind me did not.

Thank gosh he had insurance. The car will be fine. Dr. Hill and I are both fine. Sore but fine.

However, the models I was taking to the show did not survive as you can see from my edited signature. :-/

Almost a year's production wiped out in a moment. Oh well. Back to the bench.

Hi David

Would have been a shock but the main thing is no one was hurt.

Cars and models can be replaced (or rebuilt) but people are a different story.

I wonder whether the insurance will "value" your models at the correct rate?

Cheers

Michael,

Insurance should value the model at the cost of the kits and decals. I'll get no compensation for my time and effort, but such is life.

Yes. The only way to avoid that is if you have a track record (on EBay or otherwise) of selling your work, and can provide comparable examples. But that's tricky too, in that you could run into the business exception; residential policies don't give much coverage for money-making ventures.

Anyway, glad it's just things broken, and not people hurt (assuming your aches and pains are not persisting).

When you are heading out for a fun day of kits and builds at a show and this happens, it really sucks. Glad you and your copilot are fine.

Why yes; but in this case, the old adage I learned in my long-ago business law course applies.
"Who acts as his own attorney ..." You know the rest :haha:
