Just a heads up for anyone who uses Postimage as their image hosting site, but they have changed from .org to .cc

If you have any pictures within threads they will need to be edited in order for the pics to show.

Thank you for the information, Len - shades of the Photobucket Phiasco! There's a note oh the Postimage site which reads."Postimg.ORG domain is locked by Registry, no prior notice. While we hope to resolve the issue, we chose postimg.CC as our new home. Please update codes embedded in your websites." Hmmm - so you repost your images, they "resolve the issue", and then you can repost your images all over again? I think I'll wait and see.

While few, if any, of my images are so significant that anyone will miss them, I feel a bit bad because I've been one of those who has touted PI.org for as long as I've been using it, which is since I found out about it on scalemodels.ru, 10 or 15 years ago. I have no idea where most of my posted images might be, so I doubt that I'll be scurrying around the web (like a demented spider!) trying to redo them. Speaking of scalemodels.ru, Postiimage.org seemed to be the de facto standard for image posting there, so they're probably struggling...

Sure it's a bit of a pain, John ... but you don't have to repost them like you did with the PB fiasco. Just go into the original post and edit the URL information. There's 2 .org's per photo. Just change the .org to .cc ... I did mine earlier. Granted, your individual effort to change things will differ, depending on the frequency of your posts.. Just scan each age (Completed or In progress) for your name, edit and then got to the next thread, repeat until finished.

As for your posts not being significant ... you might be surprised. I imagine I'm not the only one who bookmarks threads pertaining to their future builds, not only to get the modeller's take on the kit , but also use the photos to see what they can (hopefully) expect.

While annoying at least this sounds like a situation forced on them, not a decision they intentionally made. I imagine post PB their traffic has exploded so some growing pains are expected.

I've been using PI a couple months, I'm luke warm on it, but it has been working and the price (free) doesn't really give me much room to complain. I hope they get things worked out for the long term, I'm too lazy to go shopping around for another photo site.

If I had to guess, I'd say some employee (maybe now a former employee) forgot to renew the domain registration and they are now embroiled in a fight to get it back. This may involve a ransom. Remember the sort of people who control domain names are only in it for the money. Hopefully they will continue the .cc one as well rather than ask everyone to change back to the .org one.

I guess it doesn't really matter who is at fault, it is still really frustrating. I have more important things to do than scour the various forums I post on and fix links. Nobdoy gives a flip anyhow.

Well, I've managed to update most of my links here and it's worked ok however when I had a quick look at Britmodeller, the edit function only shows a short part of the overall picture link url. Has anyone updated these links in Britmodeller and have any hints about doing this without having to re copy from Post Image?

Cheers

Michael, I wouldn't rush with Britmodeler, Mike is working with them to sort them all out in one go without anyone doing anything

It also appears they just failed to renew the domain name, and someone else has got it, I think this goes on all the time, there are probably nerds sitting there ready to snipe the name the instant it becomes available and then extort an exorbitant fee, which is why there is now another with an S after postimage in the new name, seems they are using the .cc as a temporary one and are now going with postimages.org

Ah, cyber squatters - They rank up there with spammers as vermin on the internet.

I did a quick cleanup on Britmodeller at lunch - luckily I don't have that many items to update and at least it didn't require re loading images again.

Cheers

Well, I switched to Flickr a while ago thanks to photobucket, but had used it a little before then, and just today I get this email

We’re excited to announce that Flickr has agreed to be acquired by SmugMug, the photography platform dedicated to visual storytellers.
SmugMug has a long history of empowering people who love photography and who want to improve their craft, making them a perfect fit for Flickr and our creative community. With SmugMug, we’ll continue to focus on you, the Flickr members who inspire us all with your work.
Nothing will change immediately with regard to your Flickr account. You will still access Flickr with your current login credentials and you will have the same Flickr experience as you do now. We will continue to work to make your Flickr experience even better.
We think you are going to love Flickr under SmugMug ownership, but you can choose to not have your Flickr account and data transferred to SmugMug until May 25, 2018. If you want to keep your Flickr account and data from being transferred, you must go to your Flickr account to download the photos and videos you want to keep, then delete your account from your Account Settings by May 25, 2018.
If you do not delete your account by May 25, 2018, your Flickr account and data will transfer to SmugMug and will be governed by SmugMug’s Terms and Privacy Policy.
Read more detailed FAQs about this transition on the Flickr Blog.
We’re happy that Flickr is your home for photography and we look forward to the next chapter in our adventure together as we join the SmugMug family.
Thanks,
The Flickr Team

Seems we are doomed to be given the run around, maybe it might be a smooth transition, like all IT stuff is

Interesting. SWMBO uses SmugMug for her photography business. I guess they're expanding to hosting images for other reasons now.
