Hi as it says which a good kit for these two models. I'm thinking FineMoulds. I want to do a couple of Aussie inspired builds.
The G-2 needs to be a tropical and the G-6 the same as the pictures that CA-15 posted in the Australian War Memorial. I think it has the 'erla'hood(if that's the correct term) but given the enormous amount if possibilities of just which version it, I'm asking you guys for help.
TIA

Definitely Fine Molds for both. The trop filter is on the sprues for both the G-2 and G-6. If you can find Finnish AF boxing of the G-6, the Erla canopy is included

I agree that the FM kits are by FAR the best in terms of both accuracy and buildability.

But just to play devil's advocate, the AZ kits aren't bad if you can live with the goofy shape issues around the too-shallow firewall. They are relatively easy to find, affordable, not too bad to build, have very good molded-in detail for the cockpit and wheel wells, and always end up with un-used bits useful on other models, including multiple styles of props and wheels.

Go for the AZ G-14 to get the Erla hood, otherwise same plastic as their G-6 I believe.

Hi Tommy,

I use the Fine Molds kits and am currently building the G-2. I have the Finnish G-6 to build the AWM example.
I'm also working on an F-4 currently which was also operated by 3 Squadron.

I've never bought any of the AZ kits as I already have a collection of Fine Molds ones and was a bit put off but their perceived "goofy noses"

Cheers

One word: Fine Molds. Well. actually that's two words, but you get the point. All others are inferior in regards to shape, fit, accuracy, "sit", and general buildability. These kits are the reason I returned to 1/72 scale. I've always been a 109 fan, but the better kits were in 1/48 scale. Once the Fine Molds kits began to appear I returned to "The One True Scale".

I'm hoping Eduard scale down their most recent 1/48 kits, because they are, I believe, benchmark.

Hi guys

Thanks very much for the replies and your opinions and your advice. Fine moulds it is. Its the cheapest option for me anyway and the easiest to obtain.

Michael - did you get decals for the AMW and the F-4 or have you had to do your own?

Cheers

Hi Tommy,

Both the AWM G-6 and the 3 Squadron F-4 both have generic markings (other than the serial number or werk number). I have a large stash of both Luftwaffe and British WW2 markings and just tried to match them as closely as possible.

For the F-4 I used generic British serial numbers. I haven't looked at the G-6 but I'm sure I can find some generic decals to make up the werk number.

I've used the Kecay book on Captured 109's to do the camouflage and markings for the F-4 and I'll use my photos and Brett Green's book on the 109 to do the G-6. I've also used the ADF serials site -

Hopefully I can post some pictures of my F-4 soon. It's nearly finished.

Cheers

Michael
