For anyone who hasn't heard yet and might be interested Photobucket is back with new management, doing what it should have done in the first place, and now trying to mop up the mess left behind by the previous CEO. 3rd party hosting has been restored, for now anyway.

I've just checked some old threads and indeed images have been restored and the ransom note has disappeared. Regardless, I'm not sure I'd ever want to give the company the time of the day ever again.

It must be a process they are still working on, because every one of my old PB photos in forums still have the ransomware logo, I can now sign in and look at my photos though, generous bastards that they are..

I note with a lot of cynicism that the price now quoted is Introductory wonder how much the real price will be?

I received the email on the weekend and checked some of my old unrestored threads (mainly model shows) and all the images back to 2012 seem ok again.

Looks like the approach by the previous CEO didn't work (making a unilateral change and telling everyone after the fact, especially with an exorbitant charge usually doesn't go down well). Hopefully the new team goes down a better path.

For the time being the main bonus from all this is seeing the images posted by our departed members again such as Popeye (Rolf).

Cheers

Michael

Photobucket can suck it! I still have my free account but I stopped using last year when they dropped the ransom note on us. I've moved over to Flicker and have spent many many hours loading my pictures onto Flickr and replacing all my PB images on here and other forums I visit.

Maybe I should sue them for the un-necessary time expenditure they cost me.

Meh. You can't unsing that song. They could have grandfathered existing content and required payment for new material--what they did instead was kick the slats out of any number of fora across who know how many interest groups, and now they just put it all back? Well, they should put it all back, but I won't have anything further to do with them.

Even though I stopped using them last year, I've kept my free account open, just to use up 1000+ images worth of their bandwidth.

Upon hearing that they'll allow us 'victims' to access our photos for 1 month before being taken down or we subscribe, I chose to access my free account & rescue some of the photos I had to leave behind in my rush to exit, the first time. I can now say my association with PB is finally closed!

I've still got an account running, which I'll continue to run until they shut it down. I'll update images that get deleted as and when I come across threads that have been so vandalised.

As soon as I heard of their crap move last year, I quickly went to the PB site and downloaded all my pictures back onto my 'puter. That option was still available before PB removed it. To me, that was another crap move by them.

When I used PB I only did for third party hosting. I always have another copy of each picture on my hard drive (and for that matter, on the monthly backup thumb drive process). Given the damage that they did to our little corner of the internet world (and any site that uses a lot of images) I have no interest in ever dealing with those fellows again. Once bitten and all that.

Just popped over to my old free PB account to see what was up.

They haven’t updated their iPad app in so long, it no longer works at all (iOS 10 on mine).

Their iPhone app opens, but shows all my albums as empty.

I will never deal with these swine again.
