LOL! Yeah, kinda wondering the same thing myself... not much traffic about AZ's new 109K-4 and I thought that would surely generate some discussion.

Vacation season? Seems like the town I live in emptied out the week after the local schools finished, you woulda though the rapture had hit the usual morning traffic jam. Mebbe much the same is happening here, LOL.

I belong to a couple Facebook modeling groups, and I have to agree with you—seems like the level of modeling ability and conversational discourse there are several notches below here!

Had the same thoughts about the new AZ 109K, too. If it fixes the issues evident with their Diana G-10 it has the potential to be a pretty exciting kit...

Summer...

My other hobbies (sailing, Jeep, yard sales) and yard work push down my modeling time. I’m local president of 2 club’s (sailing & Modeling) and the social aspects of both take my time. And there’s the job...

My local modeling club started a fortnightly modeling get together, “making modeling social” is our mantra. 6-10 members meet at another member’s house and chat models, build, eat some food and wash it down w beer. Between that and the formal monthly meeting it adds up.

I’m also a member of FB modeling groups. Not going to disparage, but it feels like there is a larger cross section of skills there. But if it gets the modeling community to expand, I’ll do my part.

So in the end it means I spend less time online. Ok, less time posting. I’m still lurking quite a bit. I’d post more but pic hosting is a pain and doesn’t work easily via my primary surfboard — my iPad.

Tim, that sounds fun. How far south in Southern MD are you? I'm assuming you're the same guy I spoke with on another forum, who was from PAX River NAS?

If you're club meets any further north than that, I would be interested in participating in something that makes modeling social.

Some of the 72nd-specific groups are okay. Hell - I have one of my own, but it is something of a ghost-town. But as you say, the level of discourse is a bit lacking. Just the other day I ran into some Holocaust deniers on a manufacturers' forum. Say what you will about forum death, but at least idiots like that often get run out of town....well, on most modeling forums, at least.

FWIW...I love the new “last 24 hours” link at the top! But...I wonder if folks sometimes forget to look outside of that? I confess to being lazy about hunting up interesting 25-hour-old posts sometimes!

I blame myself. I am afraid I have been away for the most part for the last few months. It really is a combination of things, all unrelated to modeling.

A) I got a new job. While it isn't as pressure -filled as jobs I've had in the past, settling into something new always occupies a bit of time.
B ) The long suffering modelwife and I are buying a new (to us) house. This has been a real tough process. We are now close to the finish line, but then the hard stuff starts. I have to move 72nd scale Nirvana from its current location to the new house. I will tell you that fills me with dread.
C) Some of my hobby time has been taken up with my new post with IPMS/USA. I am happy to give back to the organization, but all work related to that comes out of my modeling time.
D) Summer. The kids are out of school and the nice weather means I spend many evenings when I otherwise would be modeling out in the yard doing work, sprucing the place up, since I'll need to be selling the current house, as my bank just doesn't see the point in me owning two homes at once. :haha:

I promise all my fellow forum members I'll try and do better. Heck, maybe I'll post a thread on the move.

Making models I presume..............
Unfortunately not in my case...

Too busy to have anything to post of mine, and not much to respond to lately. It does seem as though the question of where is everybody seems to come up early summer when it does, si I suspect the season plays a large part.

I will admit to spending time at FB. I far prefer the format of traditional forums like this, but I am finding a lot more of interest to me on FB model groups lately. It seems as if there are more people interested in discussing techniques and such than I'm finding on forums lately. Speaking in general, not this site in particular which is pretty good about talking about substantial topics related to modelling. I swear it seems like many model forums have become the old man equivalent to the stereotypical ladies hair salon the past few years.

It's been mentioned before, I think there's a noticeable drop off from forums in favour of Facebook. Facebook is more immediate and there's no hassle posting images (even if they do get compressed). It's still (and likely always will be) pants for archiving, which is where forums have the advantage. I only look in at a few groups, but you only have to see the way the group numbers are expanding and the number of members they attract to see it's where it's all happening.

Mowing (3-4 acres), weedeating, yardwork, and household maintenance, etc. have eaten up all of my spare time, so I haven't been by much, not to mention no time to model. (I belong to a few FB model groups, some are ok, but . . . . )

Sadly, with the exception of the 3-4 months I'm not having to to do this, I don't see it getting better time wise. Considering just selling off the kit stash, decals, etc.
