Seems to me it's quite simple. If you don't like the thought of Facebook, or have negative pre-described ideas about it then don't join. You're missing out on a terrific resource mind you. Facebook is a valuable resource full of awesome content and can be fun too; you get out of it what you want as it can be very flexible. At the end of the day though, it's your choice. |

oh just shut up, Mock. You know very well that "we" was not chosen for my sentences to link you and I, but as a device to describe a group of people in general. (and FYI "we" are supposedly here for 1/72 scale as opposed to the other scales,,,,,,maybe now you can post that Rex doesn't know what a group is) I get so very tired of you bird-dogging my posts. I'll ask this before I delete the link to this "safe haven" site. Why the hell is YOUR opinion larger than anyone else's on here?? Did you win the election you allude to in your post?? I'm tired of this crap. Even though I very carefully made sure that I mentioned a small portion of my computer background in that quotted post (which wasn't read by you past where you saw that I disagreed with your "larger than equal" opinion), you still go to the "backwards person" area? I guess all the people with an opinion that Facebook and Modeling Forums are correct,,,,,,,they are almost the same. Once the noise to signal ratio hits over 1 to 1, they are identical, in fact. I do wonder something though. It has to do with the mechanics of Facebook as described in this thread since Mock's full quote post. Okay, me am jump into this here 21st Century Thang. (retired IBM people being afraid of technology aside) I set up an FB page, and carefully limit who has access to my page,,,,,,,and the models and info get seen by people how? As has been said, searches don't show FB pages until you wade through the results pages. So, very carefully, remembering that I can't tell Bit from Byte, explain how a bunch of people that don't have access to my FB page will be reading my FB page?? |

Yeah, I feel like I didn't help matters much, either - my apologies to Martin for my unintended part in derailing his thread. I see the same thing happened yesterday on Hyperscale, too... John |

Oh good golly folks!!! A company gives you a way to get in touch with them, but because you do not like FB y'all just pile on? Don't like/use FB, fine, then it is not for you and you can move along. Every company has a website and an email address. If you do not like social media, then just be happy with the options available to you. It's all good! Thank you AMK! I follow your page and look forward to future news from you! |

Don't get me wrong. I think Faecebook is a valuable resource for some things and there is an enormous amount of model stuff out there (but the R&D worth of it is nowhere near that of forums - but that may change). I did make the point that I couldn't be bothered logging in to it to view what is probably an advertising page. It is possible to configure your page so anyone can see it if you know how. |

As happened on Hyperscale, Martin lets people know that there's a resource out there and there's the pile on of "I don't do Facebook..." and all the associated tinfoil hat stuff. I doubt Martin has the time or the inclination to trawl dozens of forums to harvest the info he requires when it can all be done from the convenience of a single Facebook page. You choose not to do Facebook? No problem. You get left behind. Social media evolves - and rec.models.scale was just that, social media. It's now as relevant as carving your models from orange boxes. Ed touches on its use for references, I've found it to be the opposite - there are pages on there devoted to single subjects and coupled with the ease of being able to upload images and talk to people who know their stuff, it's much easier. I even run a research page myself. Coupled with it being a one-stop portal for so many groups and pages, it's a fantastic resource. But hey, some people embrace progress, others fear it. It's been the way of man down the ages. |

Jeff Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan. I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted. | |

Hmm, so why not join in the other thread, or hey just try it here, and offer how FB can work for us? You keep saying it can, but you ain't providing any "how" behind that claim. I'm trying to make it work and all I'm running into is cryptic menus and crap I don't want to see/read. Key: I'm trying. Try helping instead of insulting. Tim |

I just joined FB yesterday so I could vote for my Yak-9 proposal (and others, of course) in the Italeri poll, and I have to say I agree with your assessment of cryptic menus, etc. But I suppose if Aunt Fannie can master it for posting "LOL kittehs" and senseless "memes", then I guess there's hope for us, too. It's not cryptic. If you joined here, you can sign up for Facebook. I can't think of any advice to give because it *is* that basic. |

Jonathan, Signing up was the easy part, making it useful for me is my challenge. It's not helpful to simply tell me, "it is that basic" if it ain't working. If it were that basic we wouldn't have people on here telling you it doesn't support them. My challenge to you is still unanswered: go to the other thread and help describe and explain how FB (or any other social media site) can support the functions of a forum, better. If it's the future, I want to know. Tim |

complaining that you do not use FB so you can't access the AMK facebook stuff is like me complaining about Hasegawa's new Emily. "but i do not build 1/72 Japanese float planes!!!" So, i am just happy for those who do build 1/72 Japanese float planes and the world keeps turning. |
