Very snappy looking markings on what is (IMHO) a very attractive airplane to begin with. The raspberry ripple scheme is especially striking.
I come to modeling though a love of history, so what-ifs like these hold no appeal. I have the Pegasus kit marked as the prototype and will stay with it.
How about you?

My rare whiffs are in response to my local club's theme that requires some sort of out of the box thinking. Last year, as an example, we had a "build the same kit" theme that was the AM P-40 (wrong scale). So instead of doing nothing I built it as a whiff racer with modern Kellogg markings (Tony the Tiger). Fun...

So would I? Possibly, but likely a whiff would be with one of the kits already in the stash.

I'm a "green shirt" because I work on the carrier's flight deck and maintain US Navy aircraft. Safe sorties are my life so we can be anywhere, anytime -- from the Sea.

Agree, while snappy looking I have too many real in service types yet to do. My only concession to the 'what if' category would be a B-35 in camouflage and 8 AF markings

I wouldn't, even as a What If, because the periods of the aircraft and the markings are too distant. I don't object to What-Ifs, but for me to model it there has to be some kind of genuine possibility in there. So I would model an MB-5 in post-war RAF fighter colours and markings: I don't think I'm going to but wouldn't have any kind of objection in principle.

Sure, I likely will give it a shot. I've always liked the MB-5.

I`m with you Harold on your opinion but this "What If" scheme looks appealing however I would not likely venture into that subject matter.

Doing canned what-ifs that anyone might turn up with at a contest doesn't interest me. On the rare occasions I'm inclined to whiff, I want it to be original.

I would consider doing the MB-5 as a Reno air racer. Or the prototype as actually marked. Anything else, probably not.

I'd buy the kit, cuz I think the MB-5 is fascinating, but I wouldn't use the "whiff" markings.

If AZ offers a version with the machine's real-life prototype livery as an option, I'll buy that instead.

As I understand it, the Whiff markings are optional, and the kit will come with a more conventional set.

Quite likely that I would buy one. Why? Because I think it would look good beside my CA-15, which was very similar in size, shape and performance, in addition to reaching about the same level of development before its demise.

I'm not sure what scheme I would choose to finish the MB-5. Those "whiff" schemes are interesting and attractive but none really calls out to me. I think I prefer the original prototype scheme.
