I've posted this request on Britmodeller, but it occurred to me that John might see it sooner here.
Some years (decades) ago I made a rather nice, if limited, Russian injection model of this beast. I think a rather better one came out later, but I didn't have that. Can anyone identify the first kit, and tell me when it came out? Somewhere between 1990 and 1995? I know there was a later Maquette release, but suspect this was a re-release of the later kit.

I'm sorry, Graham - I think I know the kit you're referring to; I might even own one, but I don't have an answer. My guess would be VES who were responsible for several nearly-anonymous Soviet-era kits of Russian subjects, but I really don't know for sure. According to Scalemates, Skarabey is another possibility.

Thanks John. Both Ed Russell and Nick Millman have pointed me at the Scalemates site, and it was the earlier 1980s kit that I had. It would be good to have found a better shot at the date, but I believe that there are (or were) holes in my lists from the late 80s so I'm going to have a stab at 1988. With a question mark.

Nick suggests that there was a review, so I may go looking for that tomorrow.

Here's a couple of articles from the old hobbyvista VVS site which might be of interest, although they may or may not refer to the specific kit you're asking about:

A&V models do a resin set of many of these early types, I thought that included the BI-1, but it's not though these maybe of interest to you they are similar. I can't find a full list of A&V models.

Ah, the BI-1! One of my favorite esoteric aircraft! I have at least two versions of this little beast, one by "Modelism" of Russia, and another, the version with rocket pods on the wing tips, by what I think is VFS-Model, also from Russia, although I really can't figure out the Cyrillic writing on the box. These two kits are both injected with injected canopies!
