And here's another permutation of the issue of what to build. A great kit with too many schemes. Particularly on point for me: the Airfix C-47 and the Revell C-54. In both cases, the planes have so many alternatives (with more appearing all the time) that I am at something of a loss to come to grips with the choices. This is only compounded by the fact that they can go civil or military. I look at either of the kits, type in a search command at Hannants or some other sight, gape at the piles of choices, shrug, and look for something simpler.

I feel you brother, especially on those two kits.

I agree with that Mark.

So much so in fact, that is what gave me the idea to do the "each squadron" thing.

I still have to pick schemes, but, I'm no longer stopped because of all the Skyhawk or Crusader decals I had collected.

Only time will tell if I get it done or not,,,,,but at least I am no longer trying to pick the "one right" A-4B scheme.
yep, one of each USN squadron

There was a partial solution for you a couple IPMS/USA Journals ago. A chap made the DC-4/C-54 kit with one side finished as a DC-4 and the other side as a C-54 B)

I saw that article. In fact, I copy-edited that article (I'm on staff as a volunteer copy editor). Great article, but I didn't like the concept.

I'm pretty simple Squirrel!... where was I, oh yes how do I pick Oooooh, shiny... Um, oh yeah how do I pick a subject to model.

I'm kind of all over the place, I've got some theme interests, largely around technological development. Early prop aircraft WW1, and interwar, early jets to about 1960, and helicopters which have had a long evolution cycle.

I also like oddballs and also rans, and have a particular soft spot for the often maligned workhorses. Aircraft like the P40 and Hurricane that got pushed into the shadow of the later "sexier" aircraft that replaced them like the P51 and Spitfire. This also explains the appeal of French and VVS aircraft for me.

Of course I am not immune to the appeal of those later and "sexier" aircraft, so my collection has its share of those as well.

I then also have a professional interest in firefighting and rescue aircraft, so they have a corner as well.

and then there is that part of me that likes something different, like a Belgian Hurricane or Guatemalan P-26. I have a weakness for aircraft used by a bazillion different services with a gajillion variants.

That is just how I decide what aircraft to build, I also build automobiles, ships, armor, the occasional sci-fi or movie subject and once in a while something really odd.
