I just read the information regarding an IT attack on the BM site and although it is not mentioned, has anyone heard whether passwords were accessed, stolen, deleted or changed? Upon attempting to login, I am receiving a message stating that my login details are not connected to an existing account (or words to that effect). I have had a quick look elsewhere on the site but cannot see any mention of such things. Does anyone here know any more on this issue? |

It was a Denial of Service attack rather than a hack to steal passwords. Under the new system the rules for access/user name have changed slightly so I suspect that's what's going on. There was a lot of advice given in new FAQs, sof you can't find a reference in there - which I think you will - then an email to Mike should sort it out. |

The Invision boards have suffered attacks and the Zetaboards were attacked quite recently. It's not really a question of anybody being targeted, regardless of what some forum owners post up on their boards, these things are usually random. The BM board was being interrogated for passwords according to the admins. Brute Force is used to generate passwords to crack admin accounts and gain control of servers. peebeep |

It's mostly the criminal fraternity looking to hijack a server for their own purposes. peebeep |

Cliff, once stolen, it wouldn't remain a hobby forum. It could be used as any type of forum they want. Or if they grab the actual server/server space, then they can post anything they want, without any forum. Think of it as getting your Boss 302 stolen,,,,,after they get it, it won't be a Grabber Orange car with fancy stripes anymore, it will either be collector parts, or a completely different looking car. Remember, some people would rather take someone else's stuff, than pay for that stuff out of their pockets. |

Just following up with a comment that my login problems were related to Britmodeller's host software upgrade. Apparently the login changed from a avatar moniker to the user's full name (Christian + Surname) but passwords remained unchanged. I sent BM a message via their direct contact link and received a very prompt reply from Mike explaining the new login style required. Oddly however, I could find no such mention of this change on the site itself. I'm sure it is there somewhere but given such an important change for users, I would have expected it to be highlighted on the home page, or at least in a header style notification like the blurb about the hack attack. Maybe it was highlighted for a while but has been taken down? It has been a while since I tried to login to BM. Regardless, it's all good. |

Interesting. I had no difficulty whatsoever. |
