Good day all. Looking to do one of the following examples.
Mig17
Mig 19
Bf109
FW190
P38
F89
Which brand would be best? Which are easiest to build? Thanks

I can speak (OK, write) on the P-38 and F-89. The best 1/72 P-38 is the Academy kit from Korea. It is the later J or L models with the deepened "chins" in the engine cowls. If you need to do an early P-38 (D, E, F, G, H), the RS kits aren't bad but have some fit problems.

I like the Revell F-89D/J kit for the Scorpion. If you need to do a gun-nose Scorpion, then you want the Hobbycraft Canada B or C kit. Academy may have reissued these as well. They also do the D, J, and the unusual H model with the Falcon missiles on the wingtip pods.

Mig 17 probably dragon but theres no particularly good option

Mig 19 probably Bilek though theres also no good option

Bf109 Avis/A model for the A-D, Tamiya for the E (Airfix is ok too) Fine molds for the F,G and K

FW190 Eduard for the later longer nose As and Fs, Tamiya for the early shorter nose As (eduard might get around to those eventually) dont know about the best 190D Hasegawa 190s are pretty decent in general but Eduard really raised the bar.

P38 Academy for the later models, RS for the earlier versions.

What he said.

The Hase 190D is fine, the Tamiya 190D is good as well.

I am still amazed that one of the mainstream manufacturers hasn't done the early 109s given how well 109s sell.

1. MiG-19
If only there was a good kit of this, Trumpeter have promised one for 5 years. Currently best option is the Bilek kit if you can find one, it's not bad, old so buy some resin upgrades that are available. The other option is the older KP kit if you really must build a 19. Stay away from all the new boxings of this by Mister Craft, it comes in a lovely artful box but that belies the utter shite contained therein. A truly terrible kit.

2. MiG-17
Here it's a choice between the easy to build but inaccurate shaped Dragon kit or the utter pig of a short-run kit by AZmodel. Now AZmodel have hinted that they are going to re-tool the 17, which I hope they do as the shape of the kit is fine, it's just a right royal pain in the ass to build. Again there's the old KP kit which isn't up to today's standards and I believe this has also been poorly retooled by Mister craft or similar and is not worth bothering with. There's the ZTS Plastyk kit which I bought a few of and never finished. Some folks have made good with them. Oh, forgot about Hasegawa which is 1/78 scale or something like that and then Bilek re-issued the Dragon kit, but you have more chnce finding the Dragon

Comments based on multiple builds of said kits.
