Guys, I'm not really up to speed on RAF aircraft. Is the 1/72 scale Italeri Jaguar GR.3 an accurate kit? Any major fit issues with it? Another question: Did GR.3 wear the dk green & dk gray camo scheme? Thanks much!

I got one (somewhere) seem to remember that it is not a bad kit!? My memory says typical Italeri, didn't do any test fitting but the current Italeri kits fit well and any fit issues can be corrected without huge effort. The panel lines are somewhat soft; it could use aftermarket seat and/or cockpit, wheels & some weapons. Will probably get another one since the current release of the kit has a decal sheet for a spotty 'Jaguar' and it looks interesting, so will have my eyes open this weekend at the model show!! To answer your second question a quick search on googs found a Gr3 in the grey/green camo, so I'm sure a more extensive search will find several examples. HTH |

I did the GR.1 (from which the GR.3 kit is derived) about 12 years ago as an "AMS" relief - an almost OOB build of a subject that was well outside my usual area/s of interest and really held little interest for me other than the Desert Storm colours & nose art. I found it a thoroughly enjoyable build. I recall needing a tiny smear of putty in the intake attachment seams and I recommend extra care with the rectangular insert on the fuselage underside (beneath the engines). I mucked up the latter but I remember thinking it was my own fault for not dry-fitting and adjusting it first. I found the undercarriage & wheels quite acceptable, but added brake lines and modified the front undercarriage leg a little using photographic reference. If I built another (unlikely), I would definitely use an aftermarket seat and possibly a resin cockpit. Folk who are more jet enthusiastic than me may also want to add resin or PE jet nozzles (if they are available - I have no idea). |

Accurate Jaguar kits are like hen's teeth. Your best bet may be a kitbash of the Italeri and Hasegawa kits. Hasegawa has nicer surface details and fits much better. Italeri gives you a better cockpit, cannon bulges, hook, landing gear and tailpipes. You'll want to hit the spares bin for stores. |
