I got a list of kits that are being discontinued by Airfix for 2017 Some will surprise you, some not. Some of these kits are already sold out, many are limited in availability.

These included:

1/72 Hurricane Mk 1
1/72 Gladiator (both versions)
1/72 A-4B
1/72 Spitfire Mk XIX
1/72 Vampire
1/72 Dinah
1/72 FW-109 A/F 8
1/72 Tiger Moth
1/72 BF-110C
1/72 F-86
1/72 Harrier GR.3 and GR.9
1/72 Lightning F.2
1/72 Sunderland
1/72 HP 0/400

Many of the 1/72 armor, resin, and figure sets are biting the dust as well.

Hornby have said that their product range will be drastically reduced (40%) following their financial problems, but it has been Airfix's normal procedure for many years to rotate their range - every year some things disappear only to return later.

The only kits that might disappear permanently are the Sunderland, Dinah and HP 0/400. The rest will be on rotation. The Sunderland and Dinah are obvious candidates for a retool at some time, not so sure about the HP.

It's a good day to build.

Thanks for the heads up, Mark! I may be the only one here who doesn't have a Hurricane in the stash, that's the only one on the list I really "need" at present.

Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan.

I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted.

Me too, need to grab a couple more Hurricane although that will ensure Airfix does a metal wing one

Hurricanes Mk I (02067) are sold out in the US as I purchased the remaining stock, including what Airfix USA Online had :P I'm sure several on-line places still have a few.

So, if you can't find any, I'll sell you a few at greatly inflated prices.... :D

Got a spare Hurricane, got a couple of Gladiators, got a spare Spit XIX, and the rest...not interested. I do wish they'd get on with a real BoB Hurricane. Because 386 kits in the stash gives me nothing to build

Hey Mark! That's my line!

but with slightly fewer unbuilt kits

I'm okay with the list maybe I could use another Tiggie and Gladiator, but as Paul said they will get cycled round again and as I have 3 Tiger moths and 4 Gladiators (not all Airfix) I should be good until they get repopped.

In any case Airfix WILL SURELY release a Metal Wing Hurri now the ragwing is being taken down and I'm ordering a couple of Allycat resin wings.

Airfix needs to get to the Spey engine Phantoms before they fold! eh wot! ;)

The F-86 was an older kit correct? I don't recall seeing anything about a new tool F-86.

I need to jump on a couple of the new tool kits I haven't got around to yet, I've been surprised at the fairly limited distribution of the new kits.

So before I madly start tracking these down out of fear that "I'll have nothing to build" which of these are really stand out kits?

As I understand it this top bunch are either the only game in town, or stand well above the other options

1/72 Hurricane Mk 1
1/72 Gladiator (both versions)
1/72 Vampire
1/72 Tiger Moth
1/72 Lightning F.2
1/72 HP 0/400

The rest of this bunch I don't know about but there is competition from other model makers. Some (Sunderland, others?) are also older tooling so fairly readily available on ebay (or in the case of the Sunderland if the old tooling already in my stash). Do any of these stand above the kits from Fujimi, Hasegawa, Italeri et al?

1/72 A-4B
1/72 Spitfire Mk XIX
1/72 Dinah
1/72 FW-109 A/F 8
1/72 BF-110C
1/72 F-86
1/72 Harrier GR.3 and GR.9
1/72 Sunderland
