Hopefully you took advantage of the recent collapse in stirling to buy from Hannants. It appears that the decreasing dollar and the reaction to pricing from the GBP problems (timed no doubt to get the raises in prior to this weekend's UK Nationals) has meant some pretty stiff increases. As only one example, the Anigrand Clipper that I had been eying for my birthday went from $107 to $147. I haven't had enough time to see just how widespread this is, but everything I can see on my Hannants wish list has gone up. Again, some of that is currency fluctuation. It does make me wish I'd pulled the trigger sooner on the Clipper though... |

I was on their site yesterday, looking some. I was curious about the new Airfix B-17G. Hornby/America is showing it as a pre-order (they (Hornby) expect it to ship from the UK to get here sometime between Christmas and mid January) at a price of $39.95, Hannants was showing it at an export price of ~$32. If I can get a few more things, (and assuming they don't sell out at Telford) I may still order one. FWIW, Hornby/America offers free shipping on any order over $50. And they are quick. I placed an order Tuesday afternoon and it arrived Wednesday! Admittedly it usually takes 2-3 days and I live less than 300 miles away. |

For Euro based suppliers not really an issue, eg the Eduard Spit combo is still under $30, so it could just be those items coming from different markets like Japan. Rebealpha has them $145 on eBay too and he's a good indication of what a typical price to pay is - he's not cheap in the sense he doesn't offer much off retail. |

Anigrand themselves have it for $148 (plus $25 shipping) so I guess we'd have to say that is the MSRP. But prior to this latest change, Hannants had it for almost 30% less. Probably just a slow moving kit that they wanted to turn over. |

Or it's a price correction to reflect the declining British Pound. Either way, it's a demonstration of why people jump and buy stuff when they see an opportunity to get a low price (or wait on it, and we all know what usually happens then). Don't look at it as losing 40-some-odd bucks of value, but rather, saving $107

It's a good day to build.

It's only a bargain if you're going to build it. Or is it just as valuable to have a kit in the stash for "someday, maybe" and enjoy taking it down to fondle the plastic from time to time? |

Jeff Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan. I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted. | |

I'm sure the pound correction is involved, and it was done at this moment in order to have the new higher prices in place for Telford this weekend. Typically I'm the one jumping on a good price, but I did snooze (and lose) on this one. |

Yes, I noticed this. I had several items in my shopping cart and was considering adding a few additional small items to minimise the average (per item) shipping cost. Unfortunately, I decided to "sleep on it" and was shocked the following day to see the overnight price hike! I'll be sitting on the order for a little while now to see what transpires in exchange rates - there are conflicting outlook forecasts coming from the "experts" so who knows? |
