Differences between the Curtis F11C-2 and Hawk II?

So I'm finding myself with a plethora of Monogram Curtiss F11C-2 kits, far more than I reasonably need for the USN (even accounting for doing a couple as modified into BFC-2). Simply the USN only had 28 and except for a batch that was theoretically assigned to Enterprise, they were only active on the Saratoga.

The Hawk II was fairly widely exported which opens up a lot more options. From what I can find there was little actual difference between the two aircraft, so I should be able to use the Monogram kits as Hawk IIs.

Can anyone confirm or deny the merits of this plan?

According to the In Action booklet on Curtiss biplanes, the Hawk II was the same as the F11C-2. 127 Hawk II built, versus 28 F11C-2. Bolivia, Chile, China, Columbia, Cuba, Germany, Norway, Siam and Turkey operated the Hawk II.

I'm a "green shirt" because I work on the carrier's flight deck and maintain US Navy aircraft. Safe sorties are my life so we can be anywhere, anytime -- from the Sea.

According to the Curtiss Fighter Aircraft 1917-1948, the major differences are the Wheels/tires/spats, external fuel tanks, armament (some had bomb racks installed) and internal equipment . Each batch was built to the country's requirements as well. Not all aircraft referred to has "Hawk II" were. Hawk I, IA, II, IIA and the floatplane versions of each all seem to be called "Hawk II's"

Check photos of the plane you want. However, like many builds of this type, if use use those decals from the RS kits on your F11C-2, or other sources, not many will ever know the difference, and I promise I won't tell. ;)

Yeah, my choice of RS kit was dictated by which two options I most wanted to build, using the Monogram kit for the second one
