ICM Do 215; old vs 'all new tooling'

7-9 years ago, ICM released both recce and night fighter versions of the Do 215. Recently (this year) they have the Do 215B-4 (recce) and B-5 (night fighter) out again in boxes claiming "all new tooling". Anyone with any information about these newer kit such whether they are different or improved? (my recollection is the earlier ones were over engineered and appeared to be fussy to build)

These are new tool kits based on the beautiful recent Do 17Z series. The Owl resin nose conversion fits the fuselage like a glove even if they were designed for the Airfix Do 17Z.
ICM depicts R4+SN as ace Paul Guildner's Dornier with the impressive tail kill markings; however, the new Classic Publications Do 215 book correctly documents Guildner's Dornier as G9+NM. The book clearly shows that Do 215 B-5 nightfighters equipped with the ventral cannon pack replaced the original entrance hatch so the former lower fuselage glassed machine gun area was changed to a solid entrance hatch requiring some modifications to the kit parts. The new Do 215 book is a must have in my humble opinion.

It is on order from Amazon, hence my question about kits :D Thanks for the response.

Guess I need to get the new kits on order too

The new ICM D0-215B-4 is a beautiful kit. I got mine a few weeks ago and I'm anxious to build it. I truly hope they do a Do 217 at some point. ICM continues to up their game...these latest releases being equal to or superior to recent Eduard kits in my opinion.

This is good news. Glad to see a company retool/new tool a kit to make it better.

I couldn't agree more.

I have always liked ICM kits but it has been a while since I bought a new release from them, so it is good to hear they are still improving.

Not for the first time, either - ICM redid their I-15 many years ago, although I don't know if there was some reason other than kit quality behind that - there really wasn't much wrong with the first version, which eventually reappeared in Encore boxings. They also retooled the windscreen for their I-16's - the original releases had incorrect sweepback on the windscreen, giving it an odd, bulky look, more like a gun turret than a windscreen. Now, if only they would Do The Right Thing and give their tragic effigy of a Yak-9 the same treatment...

I can't wait to see this board the day Tamiya announces their new tool Yak-9. :D

You might have to wait a day or two - I'll be in shock, possibly under some kind of medication, so if it's my reaction you want, there'll be a brief delay. And I might not be completely rational for a while after that, too. If in fact I ever was rational. :ph43r:

I am counting on your reaction to make the national news. I'll be monitoring this board and CNN.

Wrong! It is a 1/72 P-51 B/C.

Wayne
