I am wanting to do a couple of HS123s. It looks like my options are Airfix - cheap, but an older kit so not sure the quality AModel - about 2x the price of Airfix, hit or miss quality with Amodel Fly - 50% more than Amodel (or 3x Airfix), I have no experience with the brand So hoping I can get some input on these options. I did pick up an Airfix 123 cheap, but it hasn't arrived yet. |

Airfix produced a couple of outstanding biplane kits in the late sixties, the Bristol Bulldog and the Hs 123. Neither kit has much going on inside the cockpit, but the potential for a masterpiece is there. HS link |

I built the Fly kit a few years ago. I even posted pics here, but thanks to photobucket, they are no longer available to be seen. The kit is much more detailed than the old Airfix kit. However it will take some time building it. The major issue I had was aligning the upper and lower wings. You wouldn't think so with low number of struts. There was a considerable amount of flash on my kit. The cockpit has a decent amount of detail. However, I replaced the windscreen. I also replaced the prop with the one in the Airfix kit. If you buy one be prepared to spend some time building it. It can be made into nice representation of a Hs 123. HTH, -Bert |

There is another option: AviS did an A-1 and B-1. According to Scalemates, the Amodel Hs 123 A version is a rebox of the AviS kit. The -C version seems to be their own. According to Britmodeller, none of these have any relation to the Fly kits. The AviS boxings seem to be quite a bit cheaper than the Fly kits. I built one and don't remember any problems.

Thanks, it sounds like I can't really go wrong with any of the available kits. |

Do you have access to the SAM Publications' "Build & Convert" series? I can't recall exactly which book, but one of them shows just what a fine model can be made from the old Airfix kit with just a little extra effort. The model was done by Mike Grant. Well worth a look. EDIT: A couple of pics of the model that I refer to above are here:https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/gregersfr/a...123-t14565.html |

I have the Airfix kit and I agree that it's one of their oldies that stands up very well. However, in my case,,,,,.even with a little extra work...um...er....so...what I mean.. Mike is a pretty good modeler. |

The HS123 had a couple of users besides Germany, added to a relatively long service life so it offers enough variety to build a few of them. I will be looking around for walk around / in service type references eventually. I don't have any of the SAM references, but I will look around and see if there isn't one available somewhere. |
