I believe the show in Toledo was the first venue from the Toledo/Fremont model clubs. It was smallish and had a reasonable but not overlarge number of vendors. The number of contest entries was not large, but the quality was definitely there. Good looking stuff! The vendors had a lot of bargains, too. I picked up a pair of Hasegawa Fw190A-9/F-9 kits one for $8 and one for $6. Who could resist? Found a Special Hobbies Vultee V1A civilian for $9. Wow! Got a Tamiya flat windscreen Mosquito for $20. Not too bad... There was a vendor with literally boxes of loose Aeroclub, Airwaves, and various other accessories and canopy masks for very good prices... $2-3 each for the most part. I had a real good time of it, and the admission was free of all things. I thought about entering the contest, but took nothing. I would have had a tough time. Even though there were few 72nd prop entries, they were well worth squinting at to see all the detail work. A Corsair was definitely well done in particular. The murmur at the show was that 72nd scale was getting stronger. The vendors were noticing quite a lot of activity with the 72nd stuff they brought. Heck, I even overheard someone mention this website! Congratulations to the Toledo/Fremont clubs. I wish you continued success. |

The court of LAST RESORT!

I wish I had been able to attend. I was curious to see if gas prices had any effect on turnout. How did it compare to last time they did the show? I have noticed an uptick in the number of 72nd models I see at shows in the last year or two. I wonder why? Any thoughts? |

I wasn't aware of this venue having taken place before. Hmmm... Is IPMS starting to keep news of upcoming events within their own ranks? The last two events I found out about weren't exactly publicized on the fora. Gas prices? I bet there was more car-pooling. I'm sure it had an effect. As much as I hate to say it, maybe prices are getting more people involved with 72nd. Somehow, if I had to contemplate a $126 Tamiya 32nd Mustang... I think there's something wrong with the "cost per modeling hour" idea being put forth on some fora to justify these big, complicated, and bloody high priced kits. To me, it's repetition of the use of skills that helps me improve... not taking a year to finish a model that I might spend 5-6 hours actually painting or decaling. The ability to complete several models in the same time frame and within cost does my skill set a lot more good and keeps my interest up a lot better. More fun doing research on several subjects than going nuts on one, too. Maybe there are others who consciously or unconsciously agree with that idea, which would definitely be in 72nd modeling's favor. I would have liked to see you there... As it is, I had to bug Flynn the whole time. "Don, why didn't you check the bags to make sure there were forks and napkins?" |

I thought you had better sense than to go anywhere with Don. I agree with your analysis re: larger kits. I do think that in order to get good, you have to do things over and over and large kits make that hard to do. For future shows check the IPMS/USA website under upcoming events. Did Don take his 109s? |

Didn't see any of Don's stuff there... I didn't go with him, I just found him and bugged him. It's my standard at the shows. I try to make it a point to look different every time I see him so I can just stand there and see if he recognizes me. This time... no beard, hair VERY short, new glasses, and I have gained a bit of weight since I saw him last (up from 140 to about 180), satin jacket, Hawaiian shirt... Took him a few seconds. Poor Don. |

I heard that I think part of the problem with people not getting the word on shows Rob is the club's themselves don't promote them on-line the way I would.... I didn't enter Dave, nothing ready and all those undamaged models (cough cough...I'm quoting someone we know ) are retired or broken up for parts.
