It is...and he took a 1st with it. My Typhoon failed to place...2nd went to a Tamiya Corsair in FAA colors....3rd to an Academy Tempest built pretty much OOB. I left the seam inside my Typhoon's nose scoop visible. I will fix that and take it again next year. :)

Roy's Spit looked superb, as did Roger Rasor's Corsair.

Thanks for taking time to post these photos. I may never attend another NATS again unless they stop the personal assaults on passengers.

Hey Joe,

That's very interesting about the contest results, considering Roy built that Spitfire almost out of the box. Roger's Corsair is nice too, but don't forget you do excellent work. Failure to place doesn't mean it's a bad model.

Thanks for the pics!

Just noticed this thread..thanks for the pics. Omaha marked the tenth anniversary of my first Nats (the ninth I've attended..missed '07 and '10.) It was also the first time I took a First Place, and the the first time I placed in multiple categories.

My Tamiya P-47 took a first, and like the Spit mentioned above was almost box-stock, the only addtitions being PE seatbelts and modified early-style cowl flaps. I entered my Academy Me-163 as a lark, and darned if it didn't take second in Single-Engine Jets.

I thought the T-bolt might have a long shot at placing, but I certainly didn't expect a First! As for the Komet, I had never even entered a jet category before..I built it as a "quickie" last spring, and didn't consider it competitive at any level, much less tha Nationals. I've heard countless modelers say they don't enter contests because their stuff isn't good enough..to which I reply "screw that!" Just put you stuff on the tables..you've got nothing to lose, and it's probably way better than you're giving yourself credit for. Personally, I regard model shows as more social events, and I just love seeing other peoples' work. Any "bling" I get is just icing on the cake.

Thanks for posting all of the pics. I enjoyed seeing them again.
