It's a good day to build.

The Wright Field Scale Modelers hosted the IPMS Region 4 model show this Saturday in the Hope Hotel in Dayton. While there was a steady rain throughout the day, that did not keep the modelers away, the club estimated approximately 725 models were entered in the contest! There were over 80 categories and 22 special awards. There was no shortage of 1/72 scale models. I suspect the turnout was greater than anticipated, as the rooms were packed to the point that it was difficult to move around.

The club incorporated all the best ideas from other shows in the region. Entry forms were formatted so they could be completed on the computer and printed out before the show (a typewritten form has to help the judges!) Tables were elevated with PVC extensions to make viewing easier. Food was catered into the lobby, plus there was a bar & grill right in the building. I can't comment on the raffle or the restaurant, I managed to miss the hallway they were in until late in the show. :(

I got to meet several members from this forum there, it was a great pleasure to see everyone and talk about models for the day. Here is but a small sample of the 1/72 scale aircraft from the show. If anyone else has more pictures they'd like to post please do so, the more the merrier!

Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan.

I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted.

I do not envy those judges one bit... They certainly had their work cut out for them... I love the Airacuda and that's a familiar looking Helldiver ;) ... All of them, beautiful examples of exquisite craftsmanship!!! Thanks for posting them!

The most hazardous mistake that can be made is to assume that something which is entirely possible cannot happen.
It should always be the rule, under all conditions, that all possible circumstances and possibilities be anticipated.

72nd Scale Aircraft Forum members were well represented in the winners' circle at the regionals! Here is a shot of David Knights' F4F-3 (First Place, Single engine prop, 1/72 Allied split) and Barry Numerick's Bf 109G10/U4 (First Place, Single engine prop, 1/72 Axis split). Also, Don Flynn took a Special Award for Best Battle of Britain for his Bf 109E-3. Congratulations, guys!
