That's the reason 1/48 exists - it serves as a prototype/trial run for The Scale That Really Matters.

John

 Well put John, well put. ^_^

You should have that put on a T-shirt!

Yep, it's all because of me. ;) You're welcome.

Seriously, I'm looking forward to these. Hasegawa does not make an A-5 regardless of what they put on the box. Anxious to see how these turn out. It's good to see Eduard is planning increased production in our scale.

Thanks Jeff.

Now, could you throw yourself on the Anigrad C-17 so we could get a 72nd scale kit from Airfix or Revell?

I have to say it again. We are living in the golden age of 72nd scale modeling. I will probably be picking all of these up, with multiples of the MiG-21. Oh, happy days!!!

If they're scaled down from the 48th ones, I'll be having none of them.

A very interesting announcement indeed. The radial-engined Fw 190 has simply been my favorite aircraft since I was 10 years old.

I definitely agree with the sentiment above...if they are clones of the 1/48 kit, it will be disappointing in some ways. But if they approach Eduard's Bf 110 kits in accuracy and detail, it will be--please forgive the melodrama--possibly my greatest modeling moment ever (which, to date, was on the day in 1992 I uncorked my first Hasegawa 190)!

So...you go, Mr. Eduard! Get out your Bentley drawings, do your homework, and make my day. i will reward you handsomely, LOL...

Forgive me for bringing it up, and I'm sure I might regret this, but: What is so wrong about the Eduard 1/48th FW-190?
Since I don't model or buy 1/48th scale kits, I don't read reviews or articles about them, so I'm in the dark about what might be coming down the road with this thing.

Warren, you ask what is wrong with a 48th scale 190 kit? or any 48th scale kit? Here?
Life is too short for poor kits.

Our webmaster can go into detail.

My own take is that Eduard's approach to the greatest FW 190 kit since sliced bread was to assume it would have to be sliced up--that is, that everything that could be opened up would be opened up.

It's hard to unslice bread--impossible, in fact. And therein lied a rub for at least some modelers.

OK, I get it now.

Jbank, forgive me, but my question was only posted in order to find out what was going to possibly be wrong with the proper scaled version of the Butcher Bird. Yes, I understand that my question was truly an oxymoron of sorts.

I think Ray is already taking one for the team with his build. He's doing a magnificent job of it, but seeing his build I think I'll wait for a new kit with more of the fixes built into the mold before I try one.
Jeff

Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan.

I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted.

As already noted, the biggest problem is not so much accuracy/shape issues, but over-engineering. Difficult to assemble because of all the separate panels and interior bits provided.

I've seen complaints about cowl shape but that seems fine to me.

My only "accuracy issue" is the absurdly thick leading edge of the fin. A small point I know, but I just can't look at one of these without my eye being drawn to that absurdly non-aerodynamic detail! It's fixable but requires significant re-sculpting and restoration of surface detail.

Obviously you were in Columbus too!

Please see my parallel post with other shots, including the built-up example, here:

I have totally not been acting my age ever since I saw this. Of course now I need to sell a stack of Hasegawa kits that's well into double digits, LOL...!
