Our new 1/72 scale PBM-5 Martin Mariner Conversions have been released today. The conversion is supplied with Caracal decals and is available as either Part 1, which features two PBM-5 flying boats, or Part 2, which features three PBM-5 flying boats. https://www.redroomodels.com/red-roo-resin-...pt-1-172-scale/ https://www.redroomodels.com/red-roo-resin-...pt-2-172-scale/ The conversion is comprised of 28 multimedia parts, a detailed instruction sheet and Caracal decals. The conversion includes everything you need to improve the very nice Minicraft kit including highly detailed beaching gear. |

Not worth starting its own thread but I see Minicraft have given more details of the PBM-5 http://minicraftmodels.com/pages/coming-attractions There's no release date (maybe next year) and it looks like there's only one decal option and no indication any of the (minor) problems have been fixed, so you may well be better off with an original PBM-5A and our conversion. The way we are going, we should change our name to "Mariner Models" but I'll buy one when they come out. |

Be nice if you could actually FIND a Minicraft Mariner! Outside of CONUS it's basically extinct. |

Hey Drewe, the hobby lobby (big chain craft/hobby store) near me had them the last time I was there and they've ususaly got a 40% off coupon going. If you are interested I can see about picking one up and sending it your way. |

Is there anywhere we can see a bigger picture of the resin bits? It's impossible to tell anything from the tiny pic on the website. SN |

Now that you've done the -5 and the -3R, are there any plans to release a -3C ? The Mariner which I find most interesting is "Nickel Boat", with two U-boat kills. |

Jeff Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan. I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted. | |

Indeed. I'll confess that I held off ordering because I couldn't see what I would get.

New release still has the awful cowl flaps, badly undersized prop hubs, inaccurate blades and the fuselage dome is too short and much too long. Take a look at photos and you'll see what I mean. I'd love to build this thing but I can't find a suitable prop replacement. I keep hoping somebody like QB gives us a resin set for it. I might be interested in the Red Roo set too but as others have said, for that price, I want to see a much better photo. Joe |

Found a good review on Hyperscale's archives of the Red Roo set. It appears to have all the fixes plus beaching gear...ordered a set. Stay tuned...I'm excited to think I can soon build this beast! Joe |

Here are some reviews with pictures. The main points of issue we have with the kit are tailplane/rear fuselage height, props and radome. Plus we have corrected many other small points. http://www.hyperscale.com/2014/reviews/acc...1reviewmd_1.htm http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...-minicraft-172/ Currently (April 2015) we have RAAF and PBY-5 conversion kits available. We have sold out of GR.1 kits but we will reissue them soon. We have discontinued the PBM-5A upgrade for the moment. If you desperately want your PBM-5A to look right PM me and I'll scrabble around in my spares.. When the Minicraft PBM-5 appears we will assess it to see if we need to change our PBM-5 kits. I suspect that you will probably need the lot. PS - We had thought of a PBM-3 but, in truth, we are "Mariner-ed out" so I don't see it coming. However with what's in the RAF GR.1 conversion kit and the Minicraft PBM-5A kit (alternate nose transparencies etc), you can easily build one - GR.1 supplies the beaching gear, the corrected radome and mast and all the little extras. A copy of the Ginter book is also a good investment. The only thing you need to find is decals. Most Mariner schemes are pretty basic so either the spares box or the Caracal sheet or both will give you the decals you need. |

Too bad you're all "Mariner-ed out". Sounds like you've got all the pieces made for a -3C already, just not all in the same box.
