I am in for a set. I hope it is successful for him and he sees a market for more subjects.

Especially since there are not very much recent Intruder decals, I gladly support this effort, and hopefully he'll downscale that Libya/Iraq Intruder sheet as well!

David, AOA is the brainchild of "Ziggyfoos" Steve Bellanger. If I say this right, he had the idea of producing some of the markings not covered by mainstream decal makers,,,,,,,,and his research took over until it grew into a huge 1/48 sheet. Since then, he has also drawn up and sold one of the best Intruder Data and Stencil sheets made for a model. And then branched out to 1/32.

Now, with this sheet in 1/72, he has hit our scale with what I hope is a very good selling sheet for him (I'll be buying two). I will buy multiples of the Data sheet if he decides to release that artwork in 1/72, also.

JC, I'm with you,,,,,,,a Coral Sea harbor mining Intruder sheet would be great,,,,,,as would some of the other Marine cruises made aboard ship to Vietnam or to the Med during the 'Nam era. It seems that only Trip Trey Phantoms and the DevilDogs Skyhawks ever catch anyone's eye.

(a VMA-225 Skyraider set to use on a Hasegawa model with a Spectre Mk 7 would be cool, too)
yep, one of each USN squadron

I am amazed that once a manufacture has a sheet they don't release it across multiple scales, given that the "hard" work is done. Now, I do understand that the capital investment is in the printing.

The sheet is available now to purchase (along with the 1/72 OV-10A Bronco sheet). They can be ordered at AOAdecals.com

AOA’s first sheet was released very late Dec 2014. There will not be a lot of releases and the focus is on subjects that interest me as I spend a lot of time in the research (which in itself is a hobby to me) and I heavily favor schemes that were used in combat. Rather than relying mainly on google searches and books and then guessing on details, I try to contact as many of the actual vets as I can find in order to get their help in sharing their personal photos (and cruise books if applicable.)

There is a long-winded “intro” in the USMC sheet instructions about reason for the sheet and schemes. The original idea was for 1/48 first and the plan was to cover only 242 and 533 A-6s in Vietnam since they at the time had little/no coverage or were not accurate (one example, look at Fujimi’s version of 533’s 1969 hawk in their A-6A boxing) - but it was soon expanded to also include 225 since it was found their aircraft also went through some minor marking changes that were also not covered in 1/48 (and none had provided the correct CE tail code arrangement for the tail). During initial research it was felt that 224’s Coral Sea cruise was already covered by at least two other decal manufacturers of the same scheme so the focus was kept on the three land based squadrons only which had been neglected in decals.

There is no plan to release the stencil-only sheet in 1/72, which is one reason I included two full sets in the main A-6 USMC sheet. Considering that the main sheet is $19, the two full stencils alone could be worth that cost. If I printed and sold the stencils separately the price would be equivalent to around $10 anyway for just one (just because 1/72 is small, it still contains all the elements that still need to be printed…$$$).

Seriously?... since when?

Because if the one at the top of this image is what you're referring to...

...and it's been done in 1/72, then I would REALLY like to know who it is that has supposedly done it twice, because I've got money waiting to be spent!

I may not have been clear. In that paragraph I was talking about the history/reason for the sheet covering the three squadrons and I stated the sheet was originally for 1/48 which helped dictate what went on it. The “initial research” was way back when I was first considering doing the first AOA sheet. After deciding not to do 224 at that time, I then focused only looking for 225, 242, and 533.

The later 1/32 and 1/72 releases of the USMC sheet did not involve any further research or schemes – so no 224.
