oh crap. Where am I going to put one of those? I'm building the Anigrand 1/144 at the moment due to space issues and not wanting to muck about with the Esci kit.

That looks great! Their Be-12 looks good as well. I'm curious to see how well the Modelsvit kits go together. Has anyone here built one?

Be-12 looks very very good on the sprues. And I have seen all the modelsvit kits... this one is by far the most impressive of them all.
I would presume they are very similar to Amodel, not too easy, but OK when you get used to them.

I haven't built the large Modelsvit kit but have built several of their Su-7, and MiG's. If that is an example of the quality and technicality then these are light years ahead of Amodel regards detail and ease of build. But I have noticed that some of the limited range i.e the MiG 21 Analog were piss poor compared to the other jets they put out. I wonder if production quantity and quality are tied by how well the molds are made? Still, I think, from the photos of the Tu-22 built, it can be turned into a wonderful looking kit!

Thanks Stimpy! I think I'll move the Tu-22 and Be-12 to the acquisition list. Because my stash is too small. Yeah. Maybe someone will be selling them at the Nats.

- I disagree on the A Model part... their earlier kits are challenging, but the later ones are very comparable to Modelsvit ones. An-26 series for example. Li-2 series too. Mind you, I have not yet build a Modelsvit kit yet... but on the sprue they look very similar.
Technologically wise, they are identical (here I refer to plastic parts).
The production run of all Modelsvit kits is identical as far as I understand -1000 kits. Well worth hurry getting them while they are still available.

I have an Amodel Do 26 and the Modelsvit Bartini. They are both similar in appearance and moulding quality. I can't comment on buildability because they're both still in the 'to do' pile, but they look very good in the box. I'll certainly be up for adding a Tu-22 to the stash.

My comments are based on earlier Amodel kits. In fact the only Amodel I currently have is their Su-9 which though I keep saying start the build, keeps going back on the shelf. In fact i just started the Modelsvit Su-7U last night instead.

I bet the Prop & Jet Su-9 - although resin - would be an easier build than the Amodel kit. ;)

Aw you guys - always harshing on Amodel. I love Amodel! I don't care if the kit is old or new; who else would give us (well okay, who else would give me) all these obscure Soviet types that I love so much? Amodel RAWKS!!! ^_^

It's interesting to see the perceived quality differences between a model and modelsvit, when as I understand they are owned by the same man and I would assume produced in the same way.

Looking at the two sets of mouldings I have, you'd think they've been tooled up by the same outfit.

Not exactly, I think they are owned by different people, but produced at he same outfit and on the same line. The latter, is a fact.

But I agree, A-model are just great... even their older and more problematic kits are great in their uniqueness and the feeling of achievement they give when you are done with them is just wonderful.

Is that like hitting your thumb repeatedly with a hammer because it feels so good when you stop ... ? :D

I have a couple of very early A Model kits (Bf 109K c. 1998-99) for example that aren't worth even converting to stretched sprue. Some of their later kits though are quite nice at least in the box (Hawker Fury/Osprey/Hector series for example), although I haven't tried building them.
