Starting at post # 20 is the initial review.....
Academy F-4J
I don't know about most of you, but I can't really justify spending about $35.00USD for a snap kit, when I can find better Hasegawa kits for about the same price, or the older Monogram kits for much less.
It isn't like the Hornet kit (which began in the $27.00 USD range) in which the closest competition was the elderly Hornet from Hasegawa or the harder to find Fujimi kit, both kits which were bested by the Academy kit.
And their estimated price for the new AH-64D ($33.00)......I find myself not too excited by Academy these days.......

Things that make you go hmmmmm.....
I may give this kit a pass, will wait for more reports.

Price wise you have to shop around, got my Academy Apaches from Hobby Easy for, listed at $22.24 CAD each with really quick post!! They are listing the F-4 for $31.90 CAD.
The only gripe I have with the Apache so far is that the collective is molded as part of the 'pit!? I am contemplating opening the canopy so one would be staring right at this stick molded onto the sidewall?? It could be a pain to remove and scratch build a new one!!??
So far the Apache kit is fantastic, I even think they may redo their A model Apache since the cheeks are separate parts a set of A model cheeks could come on a new sprue????

Good news in that thread is that Furball are 'testing the 1/72nd water' with a downsizing of their Mig Killers Pt 1 sheet - even if it is for F-4B's !!

Not at all impressed with the Academy kit for the price, at least on first impressions. And I still have a few Esci's in stock - really love those things for some reason!!

Blame your importers/LHS for the price gouging, not Academy.

Those old ESCI kits are great aren't they!?!

Yes, they are. After all these years, they still stack up pretty well compared to the more modern molds.

I think they actually fit together much better than the Hase ones, & with a bit of work in the cockpits look just as good!
