Airfix have just posted a new feature on their website "Airfix Workbench"

A new tool BE2 and Eindecker are being prepared for release next year
Not only is it pleasing to see a couple of new tool WW1 subjects but members of this forum may be also enjoy hearing that

"There is no doubting that the most popular scale for model aviation kits is 1/72nd scale" :D

Am only disappointed to see that the pilot is not a minion like Revell's :P

Oy, what are you doing hanging about in here, thought you'd gone orf to do summat else...??!! :P

Great to see you still posting Paul. I'm liking the look of the Be2 (even if I did get all excited when I scrolled down to the pic without reading your text & thought it was a Harry Tate...!! Never mind, maybe that'll be next! ^_^ )

Great about the BE2 (maybe they'll provide the other versions as well) but there's still the Eduard Eindecker.

Made my day, although there are few here who would doubt it. We must make sure "Squadron's chief modeler" gets the news.

Detail looks sharp. Is Airfix reducing the size of their sprue gates? Looks that way in the pictures.

Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan.

I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted.

BE12 looks a strong possibility from the sprue layout.

Don't like the underwing ribs, fabric just doesn't physically lie that way as the ribs have an undercamber

Oh be still my beating heart! As Matt said, great news on the BE, and the Eindecker is nice, but there is the Eduard kit for that.

On the Airfix page, I believe it says the pictured model images are CAD. I'm happy to see the panel lines are reasonable on these... ;)

Not for me, but a superb choice of subjects. There's lots that can be done with the BE 2, if rather less with the Eindekker. I hope they sell as well as they deserve.

Just looking at the pics on Walrus' link, there's going to be some interesting masking to get the translucency on the Be's wings. Maybe Airfix could give a photo etch & tissue paper option for 'advanced modellers' (I'll stick with paint....!! )

Thumbs up for the Be-2, though like others have mentioned, I do have an Eduard Eindecker and that will likely meet my needs for that type. Still, announcing upcoming kits is always a great thing!

I'll definitely get the Be2c, not so sure about the Eindecker, seems like an odd choice as there are already good kits out there and the EIII doesn't have a lot of variety in markings unlike later German fighters.

If they include markings for Immelmann or Boelcke, I'd probably get one, I have no idea why Revell and Eduard both give decals for Udet, but not for these two early aces who are strongly associated with the aircraft.

I do hope this is just a teaser of things to come, a new Spad VII or DH4 would be much appreciated.

By looking at things, though not having either the Eduard/Revell kits, I'd say that neither the Revel nor Eduard kits make Airfix any money(obvious), improved engineering (easier to build) I like what I see when looking at ejector pin placement, and a pilot figure(much improved).

Ima really liken that Be2c as well, they are using an example of the real thing to base their kit on so maybe the under wing ribs are not so unrealistic.

I can see them doing both of these so they can be combined in a "dogfight double".

I think you are right, there are plenty of other early aircraft I would rather see, but most are allied aircraft, and they wouldn't offer the opposing aircraft theme.

There are few early war German subjects with the recognition of the EIII, and those that have it would have a similar issue, having been covered by Roden and / or Eduard rather well. Most of the major gaps are on the allied side.

Boelcke shot down a Be2c in 1916 which helped create the image of WW1 fighter pilots as "knights of the sky". After downing the British crew he visited them in the hospital several times and even helped them get a letter home to let people know they were alive. That would make a neat Dogfight Doubles set.

This is fantastic that AIRFIX is releasing a injected molded kit of the B.E.2 in 1/72 scale. As they used to say back in the day, if you build a model in vacuform they will release that model in injected molded form commercially as soon as you complete the "Vac"! :o That is somewhat true. However, I built the FORMAPLANE 1/72 vacuform kit of the B.E.2c in 2003 so I guess a 12 year turnaround time is in keeping with that tradition! :P  See photo below of my B.E.2c:

Now let's see AIRFIX do a "retool" on their R.E.8! ^_^
