I was perusing Hannants' site last night and noticed they have a 1/72 scale "Aussie Eight" set listed. The description given is only brief but the price suggests it may contain the same book as that included in the 1/48 scale combo set of the same subject & title. Does anyone know if this is so?

It does. I just bought the box off eBay from a Polish seller, with post to USA, $62. That's a bloody good price and some $20+ cheaper than Hannants.

Loads of decal options!

Interesting - so far I've resisted purchasing the Eduard Spitfire Mk IX or its derivatives, but since I'm currently playing with a Ventura Australian Mk VIII, the thought of getting two modern kits, a book, and a shipload of decals has definitely got me thinking!

I did the math...even at MSRP the dual combo is a good deal. I ordered one with a couple of overtrees as well.

John, this is the best Spitfire kit ever (to date anyway). A bit over engineered but not poorly. So far my first IX has gone together easily, if a bit slowly due to the many bits. I'm not a fan of the rivets as most shouldn't be visible in our scale, but most are hidden (or at least subdued) by paint. You should at least get an overtree.

I ordered the 'Aussie Eight' from Sprue Bros yesterday, didn't see VIII overtrees but will get a couple of them too. Barracuda has a sheet that includes a more than just Aussie birds

Yes, I saw and bought the Hannants one when I couldn't find much except an English seller on ebay who was more expensive, then probably the same Polish guy popped up the next day, so bought from him as well, now to find time to get stuck into them when they arrive, but will probably go into the collection (I don't have a stash) until I do get some time.

Hi
Are overtrees only available direct from Eduard or do some retailers also sell them?
Thanks

I think I've seen overtree sets of the Spit 9 on Sprue Bros.

I just visited the Eduard site to order an "Aussie Eight" set and a few "Overtrees" but cancelled the order for the following reasons. I am hoping someone here who has bought directly from Eduard can provide some advice and put my concerns to rest:

1. The prices were quoted in Czech Koruna and I therefore jumped across to Xe.com to check the conversion in both AUD and USD. The prices seemed very good so I added them to my "cart" whereupon they appeared in dollars (presumably USD) but there was a huge discrepancy between the dollar value on Eduard's site and that given by Xe.com. The discrepancy more than doubled the price that I was expecting! For example, the CZK price for one "Overtrees" is CZK119.83; Xe.com gives a conversion of $4.78 but Eduard give it as $10.95. Similarly, the quoted price for the "Aussie Eight" set is CZK991.74 which Xe.com gives as $39.58 and Eduard gives as $89.95! I must be missing something here as I cannot envisage Eduard ramping the conversion by more than 100%. I am not overly concerned about the actual price because even at $10.95, the Overtrees are still good value. But what the heck am I missing or misinterpreting?

2. The postage quoted by Eduard is quite high. What shipping method do they use? Do they offer any alternative?

Eduard may be the only option for the "Overtrees" but at this stage Hannants looks like the better option (price incl. shipping) for the "Aussie Eight" set.

Cheers, James.

Eduards price for the dual combo is 2119CSK ( $89.90 USD) not 119CSK, going for $76.46 for "Club" members.

The likes of xe.com show a "best exchange rate" not actual rate that the average Joe is going to get doing actual purchasing..... sorry I don't know the ins and whys of currency commerce. Such discrepancies are even more apparent when you use PayPal to buy as the exchange rate they offer is down right bloody awful compared to what you read on any unique sellers website.

I've gotten all my overtrees direct from Eduard, and typically added in a RC, DC or PP set each time. Even in USD I felt it a good price. I'm not a BC member (rethinking it after my last purchase) and use a CC that is backed by protection so feel like I'm doing well from a secure purchase.

Shipping isn't high IMO but it does take longer than I'd like. Last purchase I'd forgotten I'd made the order!

James, if memory serves me correctly from a previous thread, Eduard's prices are different for the Czechs versus the rest of the world. We discussed this discrepancy in a previous thread I believe.

The Fw 190 Overtrees were only available directly from Eduard and only for a limited time. My understanding though regarding Spitfire Overtrees is that they can be purchased elsewhere as well (I got Spit IX and XVI Overtrees from Sprue Bros) and no time limit on availability.
