A little background for Tim (et al) :)
http://www.rb-29.net/HTML/36HwdMyers/36hmyers2a.htm
Note the other B-45 links, same site, at the bottom of the page.

The overall black a/c (not the one shot down) would be very distinctive.
I've seen photos of the RAF examples, but I have to wonder if they wore those roundels on clandestine ops over the USSR. Gary Powers' U-2 was in overall black, no US markings, wasn't it?

Bookmarked; thanks for that. Overall black instead of NMF...very interesting. Great read as well.

I'm a "green shirt" because I work on the carrier's flight deck and maintain US Navy aircraft. Safe sorties are my life so we can be anywhere, anytime -- from the Sea.

Question will be, do I buy the B-45A in expectation of a conversion, or wait and hope for the RB-45C?

Well, as you've nothing else to be doing, you might as well rather then just twiddling your thumbs.

What!?, I must stay ahead of my stash, keeping it at 30 years' worth until I'm 90. Then I can hope science & medicine find a way for me to live to 125 or more (quality, mind you as I must be able to continue sticking plastic bits together and slapping paint n stickers on it).

Rhetorical mostly...I will wait until someone here buys one and confirms whether the plastic is engineered for the RB-45C. Today I can't see two B-45's on my shelf. That may change of course.

I am currently reading Shadow Flights by Curtis Peebles. In it there is a photo said to have been taken during the overflight mission of a RB-45 on the boom over the North Sea before entering Soviet airspace. The a/c in question has full RAF markings. Date given as April 17 1952.
Cheers,
Woody

As for me and my house, we will wait to see if Valom releases an RB-45C. (I am almost certain they will.)

Woody and Harold K.,

Another interesting book is BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY by William E. Burrows about the photo recon, electronic warfare and intel during the Cold War. There are a couple chapters that talk about the RB-45 missions by the USAF and the RAF. A very good read and we read this book at our military book club a few months ago. ^_^ I recommend it and here's a link to amazon that can be picked for a penny! B)

If I recall correctly, it was called Indigo Blue. FS 15035? SR-71s, U-2s, and TR-1s. Fresh it looked a lot like Japanese Cowl Black/Blue. I can't recall it looking like anything but black on an operational plane though....not that I was allowed to get that close back in those days.

Gunze H77 Tire Black is a good looking Blue Black (IJN cowl color, RAF Night) to my eye.

For variation, I mix it 1:1 with Tamiya flat black (XF-1) to get a blacker blue-black, and with Gunze Midnight Blue (H55) to get a bluer blue-black.

Surprising that Vaclav shows nothing on his site, yet.
