Does anyone know if the two Ki-61-I kits recently released by Aoshima, are different variants, or just a box-art-and-decal job on the same parts? Both kits are labeled as "I-Tei" variants, and one box painting clearly depicts the later version of the Ki-61-I with slightly longer nose. I can't tell about the other one though, and in spite of the name being the same I have a vague recollection of reading somewhere, that it is an earlier short-nose type? Prolly just wishful thinking on my part, but ya never know!

Well...duhhhh...managed to answer my own question by stumbling onto Aoshima's company web site. It does appear as if both Ki-61-I releases are box-art-decal variations of the same plastic, the later "long-nosed" variant of the early airframe. Seems a bit odd as they also do two Ki-61-II's, but those are quite different, representing the "razorback" and "bubbletop" variants, so I was hoping to also see a "short-nose" iteration the early model. Perhaps such is to follow. Ah well, four purty nice kits regardless. |
