On the heels of the GWH F-15E announcement, Academy has an F-15E coming.

Academy: McDonnell Douglas F-15E

I compared the pix with my Academy F-15E kit; it appears to be a new tooling, or, at least, some new trees. I can't tell if this is a "snap-tite" type kit or not. This pix (at least) do not have the different colored plastic trees. As an aside, the canopy looks suspect to me.

When first announced it was exciting, then we got to see the sprues and some of that excitement evaporated!!?!!
Overall it looks really good, but it does appear to be a 'snap' kit and to that end the P&W exhausts do the opposite of what the real things do - IMHO they suck!!!
The actuating rods are molded as part of the exhaust assembly so they are triangles of plastic, to do the kit justice you will need resin replacements!!!
Check this link;http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...academy-in-172/

The sprues & built kit are on page 2........

Isn't the Academy kit supposedly 1/64 scale or something like that? I remember a lot of excitement about a new F-15 and then a lot of chatter about it being grossly out of scale.

I don't mind a snap kit if done well (Zvezda Yak-3), but way out of scale is a problem.

It's Fujimi kit you're thinking of.

Fujimi came out with an oversized kit a couple of years ago. Never saw it myself, but read that others found it waaaayy oversized. I just read that Fujimi has announced a new F-15E as well, but don't know if it an all new (and corrected) kit, or a relaunch of the faulty kit. Time will tell.

I just don't get how such boneheaded errors are made on such important things in this day and age! Double and triple check with independent verification before cutting metal for the final product...
