I'm building a jaguar GR1 and would like to know what color to paint the rockets. The instructions say black, and the box art shows them as O.D. with a yellow stripe. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

These are the missiles in question... did I say rockets?? Sorry... old school, and not much for jets... terminology-wise. Any help with the correct color would be greatly appreciated.

They look like they're meant to be French AS 30 missiles, operational rounds are usually pale grey, training rounds have a mid-blue nose and forepart to just beyond the leading edge of the fins.

Sorry, but the RAF did not use AS30s.

The camouflage pattern is not that of the RAF - are you actually doing a GR Mk.1 or a French Jaguar A? The photo isn't quite clear whether the aircraft has the laser ranger in the nose (RAF) or not (French). The French didn't call them GR Mk.1s but Jaguar A (for Appui - attack) . E (Ecole - school) for 2seaters. The GR Mk.1 was also known as the Jaguar S and the T Mk.2 as the Jaguar T, with the single carrier example being the Jaguar M (Marine - Navy).

Graham...wow...thats really good. I am (I thought) doing an RAF bird. The camo pattern is off of the box (close as I could get freehand). The markings are for a British Bird (already applied and sealed). Maybe I shouldn't have trusted the instructions eh? And you say these missiles are only used on the French version? Wow... why would they put them in the box? I appreciate the info. The missiles are painted now, but I guess I won't be putting them on this model.

Of course it is an S/GR Mk.1 - it has the ECM tail which wasn't on the French a/c. I should have noticed that. Matchbox kit? It came out at about the time the aircraft appeared in service, so there wouldn't be a lot of publicity around and the AS30 may well have appeared in publicity shots of the prototype.

More realistic payloads could be eight BL755 (single outboard tandems elswhere), tanks on centreline and/or inboard, or 1000lb bombs (not outboard). Normally the outboard pylons would have an ECM pod on one wing and a chaff dispenser on the other. I'm not sure where you'd get those from nowadays, but the BL755 and 1000lbs are available from a lot of Airfix kits at the time - Tornado, Hawk, and the later Jaguar tooling. I suspect I have dozens.....
