actually I have 3 of the 4 Roden Gotha kits right now. I am looking forward to building the G.IV first.. I'd be interested in any feedback or opinions of the Kit from anyone who has built it... I just really love Gothas.. they are my favorite, Number one WW I aeroplane... Thank You, DEAN ~~~~

I started the Gotha G.IV several years ago, but it's still not finished. (note to self; clear the shelf of doom ). There is a build report here, I stalled when I had the fuselage together.Overall fit is not very good, so far I encountered; bad fit of engines in nacelle, all fuselage bulkheads too large, fit of elevators a bit unclear (there is no seam between the fuselage and the elevators, the part lay out and Rodens instructions don't make this clear at once) and I encountered a hight difference in de fuselage halves (this took quite a lot of putty). Strange enough all online reviews mention the bad fit of the engines, but nobody talks about the bulkheads. I find this very odd because all the builders on the Dutch forum who build a Gotha mention their poor fit Also beware of the "kink" in the upper wing, I don't understand the reason, but as you can see in the Dutch topic other builders also encountered this. Be careful when you cut the fuselage to place the insert, I managed to create a difference in length. The proverb "measure twice, cut once" is certainly appropriate here. If you are interested I have some documentation for you, PM me for details. Sjaak edited for spelling |

I too would be interested in seeing a build thread, Dean. I have never built a Roden aircraft, but their Opel Maultier kit was an exersize in frustration. Still recovering from that one!

Jeff Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan. I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted. | |

Thank you SJAAK.. expect for the the Ill fitting Bulkheads, i have read about the other "cautions" You kindly mentioned.. Thank You very much for the thoughtfulness... I am reading and re-reading the various build reports i have found, re-reading the instructions.. studying the build pictures.. I do not want to leave anything to chance when i start the Gotha.. paranoid, a bit perhaps..but i want to build the kit well and not have any unforeseen difficulties pop up. Thanks for the Link to the Dutch site.. thought I cannot read Dutch at all.. i can understand the pictures and that's of assistance yes!! JEFF ~ I'll be certain to alert you to when i start in on the G.IV .. probably sometime in July.. I just need to finish the Fokker Eindecker E.III, the Fokker DR.I ..both of which are my current projects. bear in mind I am certain I'll take sometime to complete the Gotha..but want to be certain I do it to the best of my ability.. DEAN ~~~

I too have a couple of the Roden Gothas, interest probably a result of the Aurora Gotha that came out when I was a lad. Perhaps heresy here, but the Gotha I would really like to build is the WNW edition, but since it would require an addition on to the house for storage once built ... |

Yes Chuck the WNW 1/32 scale Gotha is Gigantic!! something like like a 3 foot wingspan!?!?!?!??! Yikes!!! I would have to park my Truck in the drive way to store the WNW Gotha in the Garage.. I would like to purchase and build the WNW Gotha..but first i will build my 3 Various Roden 1/72 scale GOTHAs... which means I will probably be free of having to buy the WNW version for at least 3 years... I'll let you know when I am starting up the Roden Gotha.. DEAN ~~~
