When I bought this kit earlier in the year I did little more than check it for completeness before putting it in the pile. Thinking of starting it, I've opened the box again. Looks nice in the box, as most kits from this company do; but we'll see. Spreading out the instructions, I noticed that only part numbers are shown. Where are the color numbers? The only colors given are for the exterior of the finished model; there are NO color call outs for the interior whatsoever. This is a first in my experience from a major manufacturer and I am not pleased. Anyone with this kit to hand, am I missing another piece of paper besides the foldout assembly instructions? Anyone have a suggested reference for early Meteor cockpit colors in particular?

I sometimes wonder if Dragon is afraid of making a mistake with interior Colorado. Then rationality reasserts & I accept Dragon is unwilling to expend the effort to make their instructions useful to the modeler. Lack of interior color callouts has been the case for every Dragon kit I ever seen. Sorry, I can't help with your specific question. |

The cockpit is apparently a sad travesty anyway. Much of it is copied from the (wrong) Tamiya Meteor, though there's a bit more detail. The seat, for example, is uninspired. I doubt I'll obsess much over it--I'll find some doodads that look more or less right. Given the time period and manufacturer (subsidiary of Hawker), I'd guess the cockpit is mostly black, but perhaps someone else will chime in? |

I think Grey Green is a safer bet, like contemporary Hawker builds. I think there is some black introduced with the Tempest, but otherwise it is postwar. Maybe Meteor Mk.IV? |

Cheers gents. Having web-searched a bit since posting, I thought I had a consensus for a black (I would do very dark gray) cockpit. But your comment, Graham, gives me pause as being very sensible. U/c wells appear to be natural metal. The rather detailed engines do not concern me because I do not open up panels. |

I must admit not knowing what the real answer is, but I would have painted mine Grey Green without hesitation - correctly or otherwise! If you have a comment from Edgar Brooks, go with that. |

My solution was to get the Tamiya plans from Hobby Search and printed them! So if they are wrong who on this side of the pond will tell me they are wrong? |

The Meteor Datafile has pictures of the F1 prototype cockpit and this is black, although there's no telling if it is either original or representative of production machines. I would think the Tamiya instructions are based on what they saw at Cosford. An instruction sheet to an F1 resin cockpit set that I saw specified black cockpit and grey-green seat. peebeep |

Good, good; we're getting warmer I recalled that MPM also does a Mk I, so went to their site and looked at the instructions. They have the cockpit as uniformly black; wheel wells unpainted aluminium. peebeep, I really like your notion of a gray-green seat in a black cockpit. 100% accurate or no, the seat adds interest and a contrast with the rest. Even more so if the canopy is closed, as is my wont. |
