Ciao a tutti ( hello everybody ), I'm looking for pictures about Tempest II in Malaya with DG/OG/PRUE camo. Can you help me indicating a publication, book, magazine, site, forum, where a picture with this camo is publicated ? Till now I found only profiles, no pictures at all. Just one picture in Malaya but with an alluminium or high speed silver camo. Thanks in advance Ciao Giovanni |

The colour scheme was DG/OG/MSG, but 33 Sq only arrived in July and were repainted into Auminium in October, so photos will be rare. I used Paul Lucas's RAF Fighters 1945-1950 Overseas based, as a reference, but it did not have photos from this period. I believe any Germany-based photo from earlier in 1939 will show the scheme as carried in Malaya. However, there is a reference to 33 Sq having had their aircraft repainted in Germany, and the colours used drew some comment - no difference is obvious from photographs. I believe the DG/Dark Sea Grey/PRUBlue scheme wwas not intoriduced into RAF germany until later: it does not feature in Lucas's book. |

Thanks Graham. I have the Model Alliance decals with 5R°D, serial PR772 reported with PRU undersurfaces and I'm searching for pictures about this or similar machine. From what you say is the undersurface in a classic MSG a more probable option even for that machine ? Thanks in advance Ciao Giovanni |

Model Allliance have a number of very interesting schemes for which they do not supply the supporting evidence, even on questioning. I can find no evidence of PRU Blue being used underneath fighters postwar (other than the high-altitude Hornets) before the summer of 1950, where it is quoted in Bowyer's Fighting Colours on camouflaged Hornets and Vampire Mk.5s. Perhaps they know better? However, I've checked Robertson, Lucas and Bowyer, and can't think of any other equivalent source. |
