Hi everybody ! I am about to start on Revell's Catalina in Coastal Command service : the box provides the decals for a white Catalina with Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey upper wings, stabs and fuselage ; the codes are : VA 708 (under the rudder) and M°WQ along the rear part of the fuselage. I did not find anything as far as pictures, internet , etc.. If a Catalina "specialist" could help me with the acuracy of the thing, that would be great ! Thank you for answering, Pierre |

While not the exact plane you are looking for this one was most likely taken over form a British order so I would say it is not unlikely that the colour call outs are correct for your model.

I've got a pic of VA703 as WQ-M, but in the earlier, low demarcation scheme (EDSG/DSG/Sky Iiirc) VA708 remained with the RCAF as 9708. I think Revell got those decal options a bit wrong. |

It's a good day to build.

Interesting picture! It is impressive how effective that camo scheme is in the murky coastal waters. |

Jeff Time spent modeling is not deducted from your lifespan. I spent most of my money on beer and women. The rest of it I just wasted. | |

We Brits know all about murky coastal waters. The white sides and undersides will have been applied on top of the previous scheme. Note that the undersides were gloss white and the fuselage sides matt white. |

My old copy of the Hamlyn illustrated history of WW2 has a colour profile of this aircraft. Its got what appears to be a similar colour scheme to the photo though its difficult to make out the hull bottom which could be grey or a represantation of heavy weathering but definately not a bright freash coat of white like the photo. Mind you, I wouldn't bet my meagre reputation on the accuracy of a colour profile thats probably close to 50 years old. |

Ah, the undersides in the photo are Sky not White. I think you are right to draw attention the the hull undersides, which might well have at least some protective treatment (classically, lanolin) which would darken the appearance. This would also go up the sides to the waterline. |
