They were built in Akron, rather than Connecticut. :)

There are no real exterior differences between the The Vought-built F4U-1D and the Goodyear-built FG-1D.
Goodyear deviated from the Vought design with the FG-2.
Gluing the wrong parts together since 1981

That's F2G, to be pedantic..

But yes, AFAIK there were no significant differences between Goodyear and Vought built -1D Corsairs (the F2G never got past a half-dozen pre-production prototypes.)

They got a little farther than that. There were 7 XF2Gs built, followed by 5 each of production-standard F2G-1 and F2G-2 versions. Another 5 F2G-2 and 403 F2G-1 on contract were cancelled, but Bureau Numbers for all 418 production airplanes were assigned by the Navy.

The only major difference between the FG-1 airplanes and the F4U-1 equivalents was the TMS stencil on the rudder, that read "FG-1" on the Goodyear airplanes an "F4U" on the Vought ones.

Thanks for the info..I didn't realize that many F2Gs were actually built.
