Actually, the best cost-effective video card is the nVidia 8600 GT/GTS. They're as cheap as 60 bucks and are pretty good.

And goodspeed; here's the comp : D

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16883227081

the 8800 GT is an excellent card, and was once the best card in the world.

The Quad Core is much faster than a Dual core; almost twice the speed actually, and it comes rapped up with 4gb of system memory, and Windows Vista to make full use of those specs.

And trust me, with that computer, Windows Vista will work like a charm.

...

HD4870 is better than 8600GT, and they're both cost-effective... hence HD4870 is the BEST/FASTEST cost effective video card (:

i do want to play crysis on at least medium settings (:

and that comp you gave would perform much less in games that require high end video cards.

and i'm not sure if i'll get vista... i think microsoft is dropping it, dad read that somewhere.

The only game out now that needs something more power than the 8800 GT is... well nothing. Crysis can run on at least medium on the comp I gave you, but not high.

In fact, high settings for Crysis is hard to get, and Very High requires Vista; but even with Vista, it's hard to get a computer that is that good.

I read some reviews on Crysis. Turns out it's not that good in gameplay.

well i know the 4870 can run it on high settings with a very acceptable refresh rate.

http://www.hardware.info/nl-NL/articles/am..._HD_4870_Test/5

poor nvidia, their overpriced high end cards only just beat the HD4870 (prices €450(GTX280) and €400(9800GX2) vs €250(HD4870)).

geforce 8 series aren't even in there.

The new nVidia cards are owned by ATI, I'm trying to go with the 8800 GT here

but okay, stick with your HD 4870 =D

Here's a thought; buy the comp I gave you, along with a HD 4870, and when you get the 4870, use it to replace the 8800 GT that's in your comp.

Then you can sell the 8800 GT online for about 50 euros (only 50 because it'll be missing the driver installation disc)

i don't think i can send it over from the US, and if i would i'd be spending a lot more money anyway.

Just to be clear, I'm runninng Vista very very very smoothly here, the only problems I've evver had with it is with CATIA (engineering software that Dassault devellopped, it's a beast) and Solidworks 2008 (something similar to Catia, but not as good).

Since both are the type of programs you dont care about at all.....who cares? Vista is as good as XP nowadays.

Yeah, Vista is an excellent OS with good graphics technology : )

You just have to make sure you have at least 2gb of RAM, and make sure you don't install old programs that don't work with Vista.

shipping price shouldn't be more than 60 USD if it's going to a civilized country such as the Netherlands.

The GeForce 8 series is probably the best nVidia series of cards ever; most notably because of the ground-breaking 8800 GT/GTS/GTX. It pwned ATI for almost a year.

No!!
the GTX 280 is terrible its noisy and overheats really fast, and it's so big that it offers almost no space for expansion, hence disallowing you to run dual graphics cards.

The 8800 series IS the best of the nVidia series, while the HD 4000 is best for ATI.

best cost-effective series... GTX280 is still the fastest video card in the world.

HD4870 is the best cost-effective card (while also 3rd fastest in the world atm), no doubt about it. i'm not wasting money on geforce 8 series because this one will last me longer.

don't think i can, since i live in europe and the US is stopping export (i think) since otherwise millions of products would be shipped to europe, considering the dollar is worth much less compared to € than before... at least there will be huge shipping costs.

plus i don't wanna wait that long... :P

idk how you call that but like

while usually 1€ is um about 1.4$, now it's 1.7 orso, so everything is MUCH cheaper in the US compared to europe... i'm sure they did something about that in the US (like stopping export) or europeans would massively ship in products from the US.

go take economics.

this isn't economics class

either way, i don't think i can ship it over here and pay less than i paid now..

plus it was 800€ here with a much better video card... if i'd buy yours +video card replacement (that's €233 more) and have it shipped over for free i would still be paying more than i'm paying now, not to forget the time i'd have to wait.
