Would it satisfy Atheists if the national motto was changed to ''In God We Trust As Long As He Actually Exists''? hmm

THAT TOO.

Erm...yeah, I'm not one to call people trolls and accuse them of this or that, but you really keep trying to egg on argument with everyone, Dragon.

Know why I don't discuss religion at this board or most other boards? Because it never goes anywhere. It either ends up as an "agree to disagree" or drags on eternally.

Actually, Red, this thread was meant as a joke. Sarcasm, anyone?

And Sal, every one knows of the Atheist movement to change the national motto.

USA Today:

Quote:

The Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Wisconsin-based church-state watchdog group, claimed the engravings are unconstitutional and would exclude the 15% of Americans who identify themselves as non-religious…

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., who sponsored the bill in the Senate, said historical references to God should not be censored for political correctness.

“The Founders based the Constitution and our laws on religious faith and principles that clear the way for individual freedom,” he said in a statement. “Our true motto, ‘In God We Trust,’ expresses this fact, and we cannot allow a whitewash of America’s religious heritage.”

However, Gaylor said the mottos are inaccurate since “In God We Trust” and the insertion of “under God” into the Pledge of Allegiance were adopted in the 1950s as anti-communist measures.

“They wanted this up there because they think God is the foundation of our government,” Gaylor said. “Boy, are they misinformed.”

actually many founding fathers weren't religious and were actually somewhat against it, the country was founded on seperation of church and state so it should be removed.

that's what I believe but 85% of Americans wont agree

Every single one of the founding fathers was a devout Christian. What are you talking about? Read the Constitution and Decleration of Independance; they're all filled with Christian stuff, including Bible quotes.

Read this. You might not like the source, but the article is basically comprised of quotes.

Yah, that summed it up pretty well:

Quote:

Our Founding Fathers wrote the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

QED, next topic.

In what alternate universe does that prove the Founding Fathers weren't religious?

And Richard, you need to stop reading those Freemason alien conspiracy theories.

EDIT: Sal, if you're talking about the national motto, well then...the question remains. How does the First Amendment prohibit the government from putting the word "God" in the national motto, especially since the overwhelming majority of Americans were (at the time) and still are Christian? Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists et al don't object. The only people who do are the Atheists, and the rule of the minority over the majority is not how American democracy works.

I'll just leave you with this:

"God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?" - Thomas Jefferson

I'm sure in an alternate universe, that means he thought God was stupid.

I feel obligated to make it so no threads are unread but I hate this thread :(
In battle, in the forest, at the precipice in the mountains,
On the dark great sea, in the midst of javelins and arrows,
In sleep, in confusion, in the depths of shame,
The good deeds a man has done before defend him.
