Yea but it wasn't the same thing before, in fact it didn't exist. You hear of people converting themselves, people starting to believe, people stopping. Is it cooler to be Protestant or Catholic? Orthodox? Before that people believed in Zeus and stuff. What happened to the Greeks? They go to hell or sth because they didn't know of God? People change on their wims, so to me it's a fad. New Atheism? Old atheism? What's the difference. I don't even know lmao. It's hilarious that there are even types of atheism now, it's like religious people are trying to put tags on that too. xD |

Atheism is mostly a fad too considering how many people who don't even understand it also follow it. All religious beliefs (or lack thereof) are basically followed the same way because of how many morons who follow any of them in a blind and fickle matter. |

How do you follow atheism? How can you follow a lack of something? This pisses me off to no end. Do you follow aleprechaunism(Don't even know if that's a word, but you get the point)? Stop treating it like an ideology. |

yeah and then I checked other sources and it said what you said, 90% but they counted atheism, so in truth, its still 70-80%. Which is a huge difference because 10% of 300 million is 30 million more people who you thought were infact religious, when they weren't. the more you try to cover up your own ignorance the more of a hypocrite you make of yourself, "I didn't say 90% of America is religious", I showed you quote, "8% isn't a big difference" "Big richard get your numbers right its 3-4k troops not 5k" seriously dude, do you ever admit you make a mistake? |

atheism is not a fucking religion, its meant to say "I don't believe in shit" if you dont believe in something, its not a religion. Lack of belief or do not believe, its all not-believing. |

Ok maybe, I know that in my personal case I used to believe in God when I was a kid. When I grew older (around the same age as I realised that Santa was a h4x), I just stopped believing because it just didn't seem to fit the picture for me. But people need to stop make atheism a type of religion, or belief. It really isn't. Saying atheism is a religion is like saying not collecting post stamps is a hobby. I recognise that some people are truly devoted to their beliefs; good for them. But some will just believe because of the bandwagon, stop believing when they can, or just convert themselves to another religion because it seems cooler. I mean, who is right? The Catholic? The Buddhist? How can only one religion be right, and how can one be sure that it is legit? Because if one is right, then all the others are wrong. So who's the legit? How can you tell? Unless they're all wrong? Give the world 100 or 200 years, you'll see that the number of religious people will decline a lot. Imo what causes the current decline is nothing more or less than education. ;/ THOUGH, I have to hand it to some of you guys here, at least you don't try to shove your beliefs in everyone's face like some (dangerous) idiots do. This being the case I feel it's better to rest my case, as I have made it clear where I stand on these matters. If every religious person were as rational as say Redemption, gotta say the world would be a better place. Isn't the case though. ![]() I guess that sometimes when you see idiots like Dragon posting something you just want to disagree with it for the fuck of it, even if he's half right and not 100% wrong, simply because he's a dick. Even I fell for it. That's why people like Dragon are those dumb people who will rile everyone and start conflicts. They're bad, negative people imo. The best way to counter them is to ignore them. I don't mind people who disagree, I mind people who can't agree to disagree peacefully. That's probably why the idiot has been banned from all those other boards. Already 2 out of the 4 admins already want him banned here lmao. ^^ But being the OP admins we are, we won't. ;/ Edited by Incog, Aug 15 2009, 07:10 AM.

One of the fundamentle problems I have with relgion in America is the fact that, voters here in America take religion as a key factor in who they'll vote for, not even caring about their policies or education, but rather if they believe in the same BS (imo) as them. I mean even Obama had to become Christian in order to gain the popular vote in America. This is rediculous, Americans would vote for a black guy not because of his policies, but because he would be the first, Americans would vote for a woman, not because of her policies but because she would be the first. Does anyone in America take into consideration the qualities of a candidate that really matter when voting? Whether the candidate is atheist or christian, black or white, man or woman will not affect how they run the country and should never be the sole reason why someone votes. But sadly, it is what attracts the decisions made by most of the voters. |

I actually see your point here and you're right. There's a lot of people who vote for politicians solely for moral and religious issues, but I think that's a stupid thing to vote for as well. Unfortunately a lot of Americans are also under the impression that people of other religions might be extremists (A Muslim who sympathizes with insurgents, or a Jew who's an extreme Zionist) or might try to fight against religion and other people's religious paths (Like an atheist or agnostic with strong convictions). This is very rarely the case but the fear it causes for Americans makes them vote for people for what should be incredibly stupid reasons. I mean I myself would rather have a religious Christian running the country than say, an atheist if they had otherwise similar policies. But if the atheist's policies were better...I'd be tempted vote for them instead. |

And they are. I have no animosity towards atheists who respect other people's beliefs and have for themselves a sensible self-argument for their lack of belief in God. What I don't respect at all are sheep who read what the science books du jour tell them and follow them literally like gospel, doubting nothing that they've been told. It's not like they are taking what they see at face value for scientific purposes, but rather because that it's never crossed their minds that they could be wrong about even one thing and harbor no skepticism. At the same time, I cannot stand drum-beating dogmatic religious people who don't actually figure out their beliefs for themselves and blindly follow what their parents told them or what their church tells them. They never consider that any of their theology could possibly be wrong, once again not because they've thoroughly considered everything and deemed it to be correct, but because they just never cared to look at any of it in-depth. |

Thankfully and happily it seems most things were cleared up in my absense, so I can make this short. I don't believe people who had never heard of Christ wil nessesarily go to Hell, there is such a thing as Baptism of desire. New Atheism isn't some religous tag, it is only a term that caracterizes the modern popular Atheism fronted by Dawkins, Hitchens, heck in it's crudest form Bill Mauher. This term simply seems to chategorize your world view better than that you are an atheist alone. |
