It's a lot different from real wrestling in the purist sense, like Greco-Roman and freestyle, but MOST professional genres (like in the U.S.) are ultimately derived from British catch wrestling, which in and of itself became a staged form of entertainment. It's kind of the bastard son of legitimate wrestling, being non-legit and everything, but still...I find it entertaining nonetheless.

My problem was that I wasn't very fast for my size (other, faster people could consistently outmaneuver me on the mat) but I was very good with submissions...both applying them and getting out of them.
