Lulz Security claim responsibility for a bunch of recent, highly competent internet attacks against such organisations as Sony, Nintendo, and the CIA. http://lulzsecurity.com/releases/senate.gov.txt In spite of all their enterprise, the harm they have committed is not quite yet tremendous. Do you think they have any potential to do something exceedingly dangerous, or are they indeed altogether facetious about what they do? |

2. Who works for the CIA? The CIA carefully selects well-qualified people in nearly all fields of study. Scientists, engineers, economists, linguists, mathematicians, secretaries, accountants and computer specialists are but a few of the professionals continually in demand. Much of the Agency’s work, like that done in academic institutions, requires research, careful evaluation, and writing of reports that end up on the desks of this nation’s policymakers. Applicants are expected to have a college degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must be willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C., area. Selection for Agency employment is highly competitive and employees must successfully complete a polygraph and medical examination and a background investigation before entering on duty. The Agency endorses equal employment opportunity for all employees. For further information, see the CIA Careers page. That's from the CIA website: https://www.cia.gov/about-cia/faqs/index.html#employeenumbers |

They're actually not that bright. Their identities have already been exposed by another hacker. Turns out they're just a bunch of semi Intelligent people who only know basic hacking. They are by no means experts and the CIA would have no problem dealing with them if they actually gave two shits about them. They have bigger fish to fry though. |

its funny because their actions of "defending" internet freedom are actually causing a rebound and gov. are pushing net neutrality and other such laws through much faster now that they have public support. There's a lot of exaggerating going on in the US media right now, they're addicted to reporting even the smallest hack attempt and constantly saying shit like "cyber war" or other dramatic words to get people scared. That's why no one's making a big deal about the US working right now to make it so cyber attacks would be considered acts of war. The only way for regular people like us to push back would be to use DDOS attacks which are pathetically easy to find who sent them, meaning some of us would be arrested on spot. I think we can only rely on some genius nerd or something to develop something like stuxnet to rape government computers.

Just like how they did to Assange, eh? I don't know why people think the US military and intelligence communities are all-powerful, all-knowing evil bad guys capable of doing and willing to do anything to get the job done. The truth is that this is only true on TV. They're pretty much powerless in real life. By powerless I mean they lack the will to do things, not capability. What would the backlash be like if college hackers started dropping like flies? Not to mention that's illegal. The most they could do is prosecute them. |

Yeah but the thing is, if Julian Assange got murdered, the very first organisation people would suspect would be the CIA; it would be a hideous taint upon their reputation. |
