I'm going to get an easy job with a modest salary; sufficient for me to subsist on; and pleasure myself with leisure and writing.

@ Jam and Sal: Not my type of thing, but good for you. At least it's something serious, productive and with job potential, unlike some of the liberal arts majors out there (women's studies, gay and lesbian studies, etc.). Then there's of course this, which isn't entirely relevant here, but I just felt like pointing out some of the uselessness of college. ;)

Good luck jack, but I'll have a year head start on you. I hope your math is in peak condition, because first year university is gonna be nothing but number crunching for engineers. I swear, if next year doesn't give me something interesting, I'm switching out. Fuck, first year's courses were boring.

And thanks dragon, I would recommend political science if you want a career in politics. In engineering we always joke about the arts students. What's the most useful question arts students use in their jobs after they graduate?

Sal are you going right to an engineering school or are you majoring in physics and then going to a two year program a different university?

there's nothing wrong with art majors, my sister is going to be a concept artist. I can see you guys are ignorant of the importance and relevance of art in society. I get you're joking but still, I'm just sayin

I know for a certainty that art can earn you something handsome in positions involving marketing or game design, and artists are often hired to embellish a particular environment, such as in a theme park, or to pioneer the concept to the appearance of an interior.

Yes. The problem is actually finding a job, which I hear isn't easy unless you're exceptionally talented and/or have more than a bachelor's degree. This is why you see so many liberal arts majors with jobs that have nothing to do with what they studied. Hence the flipping burgers stereotype.

I don't know what an engineering school is. Do you mean a university that offers an engineering degree? Yes I'm already in engineering at my University. Idk how things work in the states, but I take a 4 (5 with co-op) year program here at university and when I finish, BAM! Engineer.

Yea that's an engineering school. I'm going to major in physics and then go to a engineering school (school with an engineering program), so i'll be done in 5-6 years.

Why the delay? Why not just take 4 years of engineering?

I'm not positive what engineering i want to do, or if i even want to do engineering, so I'll do the 3-4 years at liberal arts school and get a physics major, but if I decide I don't want to do engineering, i can switch majors no problem.

He could be talking about this:

Quote:

United States

ABET is the recognized accreditation authority granting universities that offer education in engineering and technology the right to confer degrees. Degree programs include a Bachelor's degree in engineering or sciences (4 years), to a Master's in the same fields (adding 2 or 3 years depending on the university), to a Doctor of Engineering which entails completing original research. Engineering Doctors often go on to teach in schools of engineering. Some engineering schools have agreements with 2-year colleges whereby the college provides the initial engineering education, and the engineering school automatically admits students for their last 2 years. In addition, many engineering schools have arrangements that allow students who spend 3 years in a liberal arts college studying math/physics subjects and 2 years in an engineering school studying core subjects to receive a bachelor’s degree from each school. Some colleges and universities offer 5-year master’s degree programs. Some 5-year or even 6-year cooperative plans combine classroom study and practical work, permitting students to gain valuable experience and to finance part of their education.1]

Oh I see. So if you don't want to do engineering anymore, you just take one more year of whatever you're currently studying and get a degree in that?

I think unicorns have a higher chance of existing than gods do. I mean, if a mare fell into the ocean and a narwhal raped it, then the mare might just give birth to a unicorn.
