Ah, 24. I remember watching it in the very beginning, back when hardly anybody watched it. Good show. I haven't seen any episodes since season 3 (or was it 4?). Didn't expect you to like that kind of stuff, Richard. Wouldn't you think it's nationalistic, pro-torture propaganda or something? |

24 was exceptional. the genre is generally full of unoriginal CSI-like shows which i just can't watch. 24 was something else. probably one of the most addicting shows i've watched. i don't think it's realistic to hope for a new show in this genre that's actually gonna be original. then again there's always some hope, and it would definitely be awesome. |

But dragon must derive something more penetrating and elaborate from his dissertations; he cannot, with conviction, settle upon the matter as being a meretricious affair. Fuck me, seriously, why am I doing this. |

Silly, innocent GS. TV shows are rarely just TV shows. Hollywood is political, and it's no secret. 24 is a show that promotes right-wing ideals, the military, America, and the war on terror in general, and it was created by a die-hard conservative. @ Jenny: I think I was 7 or 8 when I first saw it. I was a TV addict until a few years ago. |

Well I certainly did not watch 24 with the intention of being informed on matters concerning right-wing ideals, the military, America and the war on terror in general. I watched it because it was engaging. |

dragon there is no doubt that 24 is promoting all that but see, I recognize it as a television show and I picture it as a fairy tale. There's the typical "good guys" and then theres the "bad terrorists" and theres usually a happy ending. It's not hard to discern reality from fiction, so its not as if I'm going to suddenly support the "war on terror" because I watched episodes of 24. It's entertainment for me, nothing more, nothing less. Besides, the plot might be a bit cliche but I don't watch it for that, I like it mostly because the acting is brilliant and it immerses me into the events on the show which is rare for me. I'm friends with conservatives, likewise with liberals.. I don't mix up politics in every aspect of my life. We can easily have a friendly discussion and not get involved with politics at all. |

24 doesn't care what you want. 24 is 24. If you watch 24 expecting to see fluffy bunnies eating marshmallows, 24 is not going to show you marshmallow-eating fluffy bunnies. I didn't watch Friends expecting to be preached about gay marriage, but that's what I got. "A fuck-you to the right-wing", according to the show's creator, Marta Kauffman. |

I know a large portion of people along with myself who watch the media and laugh at some of the shit they say and call bullshit on the other half. Media can't be trusted you have to look information up for yourself, for example during a presidential election they'll tell you what the viewers want to hear but you have to independently investigate the candidates for a clearer picture. also, you can't imagine Einstein buying into Hitler's speeches and becoming a Nazi. |

People's minds are of course malleable, especially when they trust whoever it is who's trying to shape their views. When I stopped following Hollywood a few years ago (I was pretty much a TV addict during my childhood, literally watching TV from the moment I woke up to the moment I fell asleep, taking breaks for bathroom, etc. I even changed my sleeping schedule to make sure I didn't miss any late-night shows or reruns) and started getting into politics, I couldn't believe how brainwashed I was. I turned from a hard-core liberal on social issues into a hard-core social conservative within months. Hollywood does have an effect. It's no laughing matter. The sooner people stop assuming the best of intentions and realize that Hollywood has an agenda, the better. I left it years ago and haven't looked back. I barely touch the TV now, except for news or the occasional movie. |

well whatever you read on the internet is probably also mixed in with an agenda, seeing how you simply switched what propaganda you were viewing. I think you are just very susceptible to believing what others say as an absolute truth. You went from one polarization to the next and assume your new ideology is somehow the truest of them all. If you trusted hollywood as a valid source to shape your views then of course you have a malleable mind. A truly independent thinker is one who always takes into account both sides of the spectrum and then formulates one's views and opinions based on what he/she feels is right, not what one side or the other says is right. |

Most social issues are about opinion, not fact. Even though I was socially liberal, my foreign policy views were mostly shared by conservatives, so naturally those were the people I spent time with. They also happened to be socially conservative, and they managed to change my views on abortion, drugs, prostitution, gay marriage, and other social issues. I'm mostly socially libertarian now, but the difference is that this is my choice, while my former social liberalism was due to Hollywood propaganda. I was a child at the time, and young kids' minds are easily influenced.
