I'll probably increase the difficulty by a notch. Combat isn't even fun at the moment <__<

I just have to use duel casting flame, and hold down both my mouse buttons to achieve MAXIMUM POWER.

Yeah I forgot you could do that.

Btw there's a way to hotkey weapons into control groups, for those who didn't know.

Go to favourites menu and play around with your number groups. I'm not sure exactly how. Probably something like holding down 1 and clicking something binds that object to that group.

Experiment.

Normal is too easy. ^^

On top level you really have to make sure you don't get hit by anything because most powerful enemies will one hit KO you. It's "normal" that you should be weak against most enemies early game I believe.
Normal's not too easy when you're running through dungeons as a sniper with low magic ability. Not to mention I always fight solo. Too familiar with companions in Fallout 3 dying to random Yao Guai or Deathclaw encounters to want to try the same thing in this one.

In games with good AI, the hardest difficulties are still fun and not too hard. I just hate "Fake" difficulty where enemy NPCs get buffed to outrageous levels to make it seem more difficult than it actually is, and that's what happens with this game.

Eventually though, as with most RPGs, combat eventually gets too easy due to leveling up, and then turning up the difficulty re-balances things out. But I'm nowhere near the level to be able to do any of that yet, so I'm still shooting things as a marksman.

If you're playing on the hardest level then there's no such thing as an easy kill imo. Especially if you're doing the old cloak/dagger scheme. It's actually hard to sneak up on people, really hard.

I guess you could refer to mages who have powerful spells and what you said sort of applies to them. But even they have to keep running around to not get killed. All in all it's still a hard game.^^
I'm going on Normal because that's always the most "balanced." In most (not all, there are some notable exceptions that are still fun for me on highest difficulties) games the AI isn't any better on higher difficulty levels, it just gets cheaper by getting beefed up on stats but that's about it.

Enemies like draugr and necromancers aren't supposed to take endless time to kill. Their higher-level versions are always supposed to be dangerous, but lower-level ones are supposed to be kind of weak to a player of decent level. Though that isn't to say that, even at this level, I can go around killing everything haplessly. There's a few places I've had to withdraw from because of the mobs of high-level enemies that could each kill my character in about for hits, but since level locks once you enter a "dungeon" you can level up and come back later when you're ready.
actually since the AI is stupid and almost always of a worse level than you i wouldn't say it's balanced at all. anyway it's about whether you want a challenge or just a role playing experience. and since someone said something about playing a mage being lame because you don't have to work for your kills, i'm just saying if you tune the difficulty a bit you definitely have to work for your kills.

and i 2 hit draugr, restless ones i 6 hit etc. i know they're not supposed to be tough enemies, and they aren't. dragons however are supposed to be tough enemies, and when i see my friends playing on adept and just killing dragons with complete ease, even standing in their fire like it's nothing, i wonder which difficulty really is the imbalanced one..
Can't use magic as a marksman. Can't block either. Dragon fights you and you have to hit and run something faster than you with your pitiful arrows, call in the Histskin power so you don't die in five seconds. And that's just on Adept.

Yeah, the AI might be daft and generally of a lower level but they can also swarm you. Also, fighting enemy mages/necromancers/etc. as an archer is no cakewalk when they're burning you to a crisp with fire and you can't even aim because of the flames in your HUD.

I think unicorns have a higher chance of existing than gods do. I mean, if a mare fell into the ocean and a narwhal raped it, then the mare might just give birth to a unicorn.

You can fight as part of the Imperial Legion and defend Whiterun.

Just go with Hadvar at the beginning of the game and take the wagon from Whiterun to Solitude.

ye i joined the imperial legion and defended whiterun. you don't necessarily have to go with hadvar at the start, you should be able to just join them up in solitude in the palace. talk to general something-us

Yeah, but by the time I knew Whiterun would be attacked, it was too late; after joining the Stormcloaks, the Legion becomes inaccessible to you. I'd grown exceedingly attached to Whiterun after becoming Thane of it, and receiving a housecarl and everything; and the idea of sieging it went against my notions entirely. I initially thought the Stormcloaks would be better because I'm not one to believe in oppression; but after exploring the character and ideals of a typical Stormcloak, I'm no longer convinced that it is a cause I should be fighting for.

So yeah

I became Arch-mage of Winterhold college, and the boss battle I had to get through to do so was the hardest I had yet encountered - absurdly hard. I'd been playing on Expert difficulty up until that point.... so the guy that I have to fight kills me from across the room with lightning - not to mention his health pool is ineradicable.

So I press escape and go to settings and adjust the difficulty to its lowest - hard boss becomes easy (andy)

EDIT: And yeah, racist nords; that's precisely one of the reasons why I dislike the Stormcloaks. But I suppose there's still virtue in fighting for liberty.

do you mean the lich? remember i said they were the only characters i had trouble with? that time it took me an hour to kill it just by constantly standing behind a pillar and dodging his shit then sometimes firing off a spell of my own. i died countless times because he kept one hitting me :S

btw on that particular lich i found a mask called morokei that gives 100% mana regen :D all lichs have sick masks like that

I'm not sure if the next run-through I do (when I finish this one...whenever that will be) is going to be a close-quarters warrior or a mage. Decisions decisions!

Oh and Ice Atronachs, while not insanely difficult to kill, are annoying. Really annoying.

Yeah, that's precisely who I was referring to, although I didn't know they were called Lichs. If you wear the mask in conjunction with the Archmage's Robes, your head disappears. <__<

Enemy atronachs are always irritating to fight against; the flame atronachs never seem to stop moving around.

lol dude giants are fucking OP. one hit and im suddenly flying literally like miles in the air. I attacked one and I kited it by taking advantage of the shitty pathing the creatures have. I would wait till its close then jump up on a cliff and it would have to go all the way around and then I just jumped back down as it came close again. whilst I was doing this for like 15 minutes, another one came at me bro so like here I am kiting two different fucking giants, barely killing one and then I just decided to run away until I singled out the weaker one and killed him. this game is crazy

It gets easier, however. When you're level ~30 giants will become much more manageable, although giants in particular will never become push-overs; certain enemies remain a challenge throughout the game.

Last night I took some time to hit giants with a bow then run back to whiterun. Then I went through an arch that was too big for them to pass and just shot them to death with 30 arrows and destruction spells. Killed two like that.
