ehn i don't feel like arguing about it. i had this discussion with my aunt/uncle just hours ago coincidentally. thing is that if you give everything to the "lower" classes then what incentive do they have to work themselves? rich people aren't all kanye west who tried to get married at versailles or something, "rich" people are people who figured out a smart way to make good money. but that almost always comes with hard work. france is currently being confiscatory with their taxes. it's not possible to make a living anymore by doing your own start up or anything like that; it's kind of cancerous really like, there ARE things that should be available and given to all. eduaction, health care, roads, transport, energy, etc. all good. it's needed. but, you can't overdo. perhaps we agree with the basic principles but not on the numbers don't feel like arguing about it because it would take hard numbers and would also require an effort on my part to correctly articulate my arguments, if that's english at all. |

Well having more money means you'll spend more generally, but only to a certain extent. People with fabulous personal wealth still use the same amount of toilet paper as everyone else, etc. The more people that have enough money to buy luxury items and entertainment at a reasonable rate and quantity, the better the economy will be off. |

They won't if they're given too much. I think the main idea is to have a social safety net so that people don't generally fall below a certain minimum standard, and can continue to purchase the bare necessities that they need to live and survive without having to constantly worry about running out of cash. The arguments for this aren't only moral; it's better for society upon the whole when we have fewer poor and homeless people wandering around, and the hope is that, if people fall out work, they'll be sufficiently supported by state welfare to devote all their time and energy to finding a good job for themselves. The problem is determining where the minimum standard lies, so that people aren't given so much that they can lead fairly contented lives without ever having to contribute an hour of hard work to the economy. There's also a certain reliance on the willingness of people to work; most people derive some kind of fulfillment, some sense that they're doing their part in maintaining society, from their work, even if it consists of a mind-numbing daily routine, but obviously this isn't the case with everyone, and people who spend their lives leeching off welfare provisions worsen the inefficiency that already comes with unemployment. |

This video comes to mind when I think about education and military spending. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMqcLUqYqrs as for giving money to the poor, I am on both sides. I think it should be available to get by until you can get yourself in a better situation. 99% of people use it however as a free ride manipulating the system to not have to work much. It is bullshit that because I am white, when I was in college with two kids and married I could not get food stamps, free govt. healthcare, etc. when the people around me had designer clothes, gold teeth, and the newest 300 dollar i-phones getting everything because they were entitled to it. The system is screwed up. There should be a cap time you can receive benefits (unless medical or other conditions extend it). People to incogs point though don't work because they don't have to. They want a free ride so they get a free ride. Their job is filling out 15 applications a week for jobs they know they aren't qualified for, knowing they will turn down any job that for some off chance offers a position because they have to show proof they are applying... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a780LGWG7to Edited by ryker, Feb 27 2014, 09:02 PM.

I don't have a smartphone ![]() "With free money, why would anyone work in America?" Dignity, sense of purpose and accomplishment, boredom, social stigma. I'd still work if I had free money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWxCc2lGWIo Edited by Jam, Feb 28 2014, 02:16 AM.

it really is amazing if you pick your subreddits carefully. the standard front page is not very interesting at all. the first thing you do is unsub from /r/funny and /r/adviceanimals (is that still standard?). just think what your hobbies are incog and go from there. there is a subreddit for everything. im subbed to 4chan AnimalsBeingBros announcements ants aoe2 aoe3 AskReddit atheism baduk biology blog chess classic4chan EarthPorn gameofthrones gaming HalfLife3 headphones HouseOfCards IAmA Juniper LifeProTips LucidDreaming math magicTCG marijuanaenthusiasts movies networking philosophy pics politics science scuba shittyadvice space spiders starcraft technology television Terraria todayilearned totalwar trees TrueDetective UkrainianConflict videos worldnews especially worldnews, science, space and technology can have some really interesting shit sometimes. other than that, reddit is the easiest way to find people who are interested in the same shit as you however unusual that interest is. |
