Never heard of that site however I've heard of custom built laptops before. I wouldn't go with them but rather get an ASUS laptop as ASUS have the best reputation when it comes to laptops in my opinion. However if you're going for a gaming laptop remember two things: you'll be paying 20% premium for the mobility you get with a laptop and you'll also never come truly close to desktop performance as laptop cooling is terrible. Just look at any graphics card with their monster sized coolers. I guess if you really need to be able to move around then yeah you can get a laptop. My own rig at the moment can run pretty much any game at 1080p at ultra settings (ie very close to max settings) for somewhere around €760. Though now my rig is more expensive than that since I got an SSD for christmas. oh shit. |

I decided to examine this one: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/vortexIV-LE/ Yeah it's pretty damn expensive for what it is. €933 gets you an i3 @ 2.4 GHz and GTX 765M GPU chip. It doesn't look like a bad chip: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-765M.92907.0.html With that, 4 Gb of RAM and only 500 Gb of HDD storage. That's kind of sucky. 8 Gb of RAM is the go-to for a gaming rig (16 Gb if you're pro), 500 Gb of storage is meh. That's for €933, which is £781. For way less money you can get yourself a rig that blows that laptop out of the water, namely something like this: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2pH1Z You can spend some money on an SSD or you can get an even beefier graphics card. The R9 290 at the moment is an absolutely mouth watering card. It gets you absolute max settings on any game at 1080p for like $400 (convert to € and £). However AMD's reference card isn't that good in that it runs too hot and it's pretty loud. However AMD partners like ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, Sapphire and HIS are going to release their own R9 290s next year and they're going to give you the mouth watering performance without the heat and noise issues. If I were building a computer right now I would wait for those cards to come out because they're incredible bang for buck while delivering insane performance. Look at sexy: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/12/23/asus_r9_290x_directcu_ii_oc_video_card_review/10#.UrsWZvRDvYE http://www.overclock.net/t/1450488/tpu-gigabyte-lists-its-windforce-equipped-radeon-r9-290x-and-r9-290-cards http://www.overclock.net/t/1452307/tpu-sapphire-announces-the-radeon-r9-290x-290-tri-x-graphics-cards http://vr-zone.com/articles/msi-launches-r9-290-r9-290x-gaming-4g-video-cards/67771.html Edited by Incog, Dec 25 2013, 05:32 PM.

I do need to be pretty mobile though Incog, I don't really have the space for a desktop plus if I rent this house I really need to be portable. I can get the Optimus V they have on their for under £850 with: i7 quad core 8GB RAM 128 SSD 1TB HD GTX 765M To me that's great value, especially for a laptop? Funny you mention ASUS, this is my 2nd option http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/asus-n550jv-cm067h-15-6-touchscreen-laptop-21490052-pdt.html The Optimus specs blow it out of the water a bit though, only thing it has on it is the Blu ray player which I probably wouldn't use and the touch screen that I probably wouldn't use. Plus I can get the Optimus with Windows 7. |

ah shit forgot to answer though it's still expensive compared to a desktop it's all right. should play games decently enough i guess. sounds all right to me, though see if you can check reviews or something because sometimes these brands you've never heard of might have something unpleasant even though they seem all right. cooling or reliability or whatnot |

I now want to budget myself to £700 Looking at this http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/asus-n550lf-ck026h-15-6-touchscreen-laptop-dark-grey-21460359-pdt.html#longDesc Just me though or apart from the graphics card are the specs a little underwhelming for the price? Any other suggestions? It needs to be able to run Skyrim. |

seems it can run most games at medium settings with crysis 3 which has to be run at low. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-745M.90244.0.html unfortunately they don't talk about resolutions in those benchmarks, which I find renders them half useless. |
